Magneto is considered the best lockbox hero ever released in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, primarily due to his effectiveness in battle. Unsurprisingly, this also makes him one of the more effective PvP heroes in the game. He isn’t owned by that many players, but among those who do own him, he is commonly placed on defensive PvP teams. If, like many players in the game, you are losing to him more often than you are winning, the following strategy guide will teach you how to defeat Magneto in PvP in Marvel: Avengers Alliance.
Metal Detector – Unless you have a status effect that prevents debuffs, this ability will magnetize every member of your team equipped with metal after every single action performed by any character. And, if Magneto is equipped with the right empowered ISO, nothing can prevent this from being applied. It isn’t possible to create a useful agent that doesn’t wield metal, so don’t bother to even try. Just know that your agent will be magnetized. If Magneto is very common in your metagame, you may want to try to include at least one hero on your team without any metal. Rogue is currently one of the better heroes that fits this criterium, but far from the only.
Magnetized – Magnetized prevents a hero from scoring critical hits and from dodging attacks. Evasion effects still work, but dodging from evasion stats is prevented. You aren’t likely to be affected much by the latter part of the effect, but the former can be devastating if you rely on critical hits, Iron Patriot and Havok, in particular, or neutered by magnetized. The bigger danger to being magnetized is that any magnetized hero that attacks magneto has a chance of being preemptively countered. This preemptive counter is made with Electromagnetic Blast, which means it deals both set damage before the counterattack and regular damage of the counterattack hits. Once a hero is magnetized, you need to use only stealthy attacks on Magneto or else you will lose team members at an alarming rate.
Magnetic Field – If you have any buff removal on your team, you need to save it for after Magneto uses Magnetic Field. He will often use this in the first round, but not only. If you don’t have buff removal, shield breaker or exhaustion will also work. If you destroy the shield through normal damage, you will grant another action to the enemy protected by the shield.
Mental Immunity – With all of his other advantages, it is easy to forget that Magneto is immune to psychic powers. This basically means he can completely ignore Emma Frost and blind rage from Horseman of War’s Snikt power is also useless on him. Most psychic heroes have fallen out of disfavor anyway, but if you do use one on your team, make sure the other member of your team is immune to Metal Detector and don’t include a blaster on your team.
