Hybrid is the group boss of Special Operation 18 in Marvel: Avengers Alliance. He is by far the most difficult group so far released in the game. Like many previous group bosses, he has five different forms, one of each class. Each form has different powers and special abilities, making each an individual challenge. The blaster form tears into a single opponent and keeps attacking until that opponent falls, unless you take measures to prevent this. The following tips will help you defeat the blaster hybrid group boss in Marvel: Avengers Alliance.
Focused Fury – When Hybrid uses his Fury attack, he applies the focused fury status effect to the target of the attack. All future attacks by Hybrid will hit that target and automatically score critical hits. You can remove this by dealing fire or sonic damage to Hybrid, though usually the damage is done by that point. Heroes like Human Torch that counter with a fire attack can immediately neutralize this effect and you can get a similar benefit by equipping your agent with the Sonic Knife. Fandral is an even better counter because he can preemptively depower Hybrid before the attack hits. Using heroes resistant to critical hits isn’t particularly effective because they only non-bruiser that is resistant to critical hits is an alternate variant of Hulk with the right E-ISO equipped.
Multiple Actions – Hybrid has a multi-target attack which applies exhausted. You should assume he will use this every round and avoid relying on quick actions or assuming that tacticians will be able to act twice in a round. Fandral is the one tactician that you can consistently rely on to be able to act twice in a round and his special ability will also protect your other tacticians as well.
Off-Balance – Hybrid will occasionally preemptively counterattack and since he prevents all attacks against him from being stealthy, the usual means of avoiding this doesn’t work. The best solution is to equip a weapon or use a hero that can apply off-balance. The tactician version of the Horseman of Pestilence Beast is a particularly useful choice here because Hybrid will not automatically have a chance to remove this status effect each round while Beast is alive. Alternatively, bring Iron Fist to prevent those preemptive counterattacks.
Counterattack – One good solution to dealing with this version of Hybrid is to fight fire with fire. Hybrid can’t counterattack you if you don’t attack him. A few heroes, like Beast, can take non-attack actions on their turn and then counterattack when Hybrid acts. Similarly, you can equip you agent with lots of counterattack gear to get lots of free attacks against Hybrid. While your attacks can’t be stealthy, none of his are either.
Heroes – Despite the fact that he is likely to be exhausted, Cyclops is a good hero for this Hybrid. Even while exhausted, he can give everyone on your team a counterattack, which more than makes up for a lost attack. If he isn’t exhausted, he can apply flanked, which means your heroes still deal more damage than Hybrid even when he counters and impaired which actively mitigates the damage from counterattacks and normal attacks. As discussed, Fandral is also an amazing choice because he can depower and he can decrease the damage that Hybrid deals with counter attacks. A combination of Fandral and Hogun is particularly powerful, if you own both heroes.
