Everyone deals with stress in their life. However, everyone deals with everyday stressors in different ways. Most people have heard of meditation and deep breathing being used to help relax and clear their thoughts, but there are so many more ways to unwind and de-stress. The biggest obstacle is figuring out what works for you.
As we all know, stress can be caused by a mass of problems or even just everyday life. With that said, it may take different types of activities to help relieve different kinds of stress. Some may enjoy a hot bath, while others may enjoy exercise. There are also plenty of other activities that you may not think of when trying to get rid of that awful stress. Here we will go over some not so popular activities that can help in trying situations.
For those who, like myself, can’t sit still, crafts are a great way to de-stress. There are plenty of different websites and blogs that can be used to find something that you’re interested in, such as Pinterest or Tumblr. Do it yourself projects are a great way to keep your mind focused on what’s at hand and relax while doing it. So, the end result is a bit of relaxation, time to let your mind wander and a great craft that you made yourself.
Listening to music is another great way to de-stress. Whether you like to be out or inside, you can sit back, put on some relaxing tunes and give some time back to yourself.
This is another one for the more active people. Sports, when not played extremely competitively, can be an outstanding technique for letting go of your stressors from the week. Recreational sports are also a great workout. There you get another double plus. Whether you have played sports before or not doesn’t really matter. You can start off fresh and learn something new for every season.
I played softball for two years. Before that, the only other sport that I had played was basketball way back in the beginning of middle school. It does not matter how in-shape you are or aren’t. There are teams all over that are always willing to teach an interested rookie.
Cooking is another activity that I enjoy very much. At the end of the day I may be tired and worn out, but as soon as I get that extra oomph to get things started in the kitchen, I always appreciate that time to keep my hands busy and let my mind go.
Reading can help you to explore another person’s story or even another world. This is perfect for when you just need some down time to forget about what’s going on in the real world. Reading can take your mind to a completely different place so that you get the relaxation that you need.
These are just a few of the many different things that you can do to de-stress and relax after a long week. Of course there are many more and all can be helpful to different people with varying personalities. The best way to see what works for you is to pay attention to how different activities affect your mood. Once you find the few things that work, they can help you through the rest of your life.
