With spring right around the corner, you are probably thinking about the many things you can do in and around the home. If you or someone in your family truly enjoys reading, why not create a comfy space to read, right in your backyard. I have found that by simply using some of the items you have lying around the house, or yard, you can make a nice little reading nook. Take a look at some of the tips below and try to create your own backyard reading nook. You can also click here to find some pictures that may help you add to the ideas below to really make it your own.
Reading in a tree
I know that reading in a tree may sound a little odd at first, but it really is a nice reading space that you can create in your backyard, if you happen to have a tree in it. You will need a tree that is big enough to hold a bench seat. You are going to want to mount the bench seat to the base of the tree. All you need to do this is a few strong pieces of wood that you can nail together. You don’t really need a design for this just go with your creativity. You can even make the seat wrap around the tree if you have enough wood. If you have some wood lying around the yard, perhaps from an old project, you can use this. Or perhaps you have an old piece of furniture that you can chop up and use for the side. To add a little bit of cushion you can use outdoor pillows, or cushions. You may have some of these items lying in a shed, or garage. Just clean them off and put them back to use. You may want to have a lamp from a tree so that you have light to read by in the evening, which is the best time to sit in the yard.
Read by the fire
One of the best places to read is by an open fire. If you are worried about hurting your eyes with not enough light you can use one of those clip on book lights. This will give you the right amount of light and plenty of warmth from the fire. I really like the idea of creating a nice beach space in the yard where you can put the fire pit. Of course if you don’t feel like being bothered with sand, grass will work fine, and you won’t have to worry about it being tracked into your house. You can use regular outdoor cushions to sit on. For back support you can also use wood to make a back support. Although it may be easier to just use some old yard furniture, and arrange it around the fire.
Re-use an old tent
If you have an old tent lying around the house, you can use this as a backyard reading space. Set it up, and put some seats inside. If you have screened windows you can keep them open and let fresh air and sunlight in. This is a great way to create a bug free reading space.
Island for reading
Some of us like to sit at a table while we read, so that we can have a snack, and perhaps sip some tea. So why not get some pieces of wood and create an island just for reading. You just need to make a table big enough to sit at with some comfortable chairs.
