COMMENTARY | Back during the 2008 campaign, as then Senator Barack Obama was in full hope and change mode, then Gov, Sarah Palin warned the American people that if Obama were to be elected president, Russia might invade the Ukraine.
“After the Russian Army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next.”
Of course, at the time, Palin was mocked for making such a prediction. All of the smart people in the political class and the mainstream media knew that Obama, as president, would be able to regain the respect in the world that President Bush was alleged to have squandered.
As of this writing, Russia is in the process of seizing the Crimea, part of the Ukraine. President Obama, who seems to be very much gobsmacked by the recent developments, is huffing and puffing and is promising unspecified consequences if Vladimir Putin continues. Putin’s reaction is unknown, but thus far the Russian troops are not withdrawing. Meanwhile a 150,000 man army is maneuvering on the Ukraine border.
There are certain events in history that prove the folly of appeasement. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan is one of those events. Nazi Germany seizing the Sudetenland is another. Obama, who is supposed to have been the smarted person to occupy the presidency in the history of the Republic, is shocked that his so called reset button has caused this kind of military adventurism. Palin, who had been derided by the chattering class as having the intelligence of a slug, knew all along what was likely to happen.
At no time in history have two people been so misjudged by so many people. Let us restate what has happened. Palin warned us what was going to happen. We elected Obama anyway, twice, and now what Palin warned about has taken place.
It seems that based on real world evidence, it is Obama who has proven to be the naïf and Palin who has proven to be not only cunning, but prescient. Clearly the wrong person is president, but sadly it is too late.
