Within the next year, I plan to buy the new iPad mini with retina display. This tech device costs around $800. In order to save for this big purchase, I plan to implement a few cost saving measures.
Limit Trips to the Bookstore
I love to read. Bookstores are full of temptation for me. However, many of these same books can be found at the library. Also, many e-books are free and can be downloaded to my phone or computer.
Cokes and other drinks are overpriced at many restaurants. Most restaurants don’t charge for water. If they do charge for water, it is a lot less than what they charge for soft drinks. I do not eat out that much, but when I do, I will order water.
Open the Windows
Instead of buying cans of air freshener and dousing the house with them, I plan to open all the windows on warm days. This allows the fresh air to circulate through the house and bring in pleasant scents like flowers inside. This will also cut down on the electricity bill as I won’t be using the air conditioner or fans as much.
Ditch the Potting Soil
Let’s face it. The dirt in your backyard is just as good as that expensive potting soil. I like to have plants in the house. When they get too big for their current pot, I have to move them to a bigger pot. However, I can go out into my yard and get dirt that will work just as good as the potting soil. The best thing is that it’s free! If it’s good enough for the flowers outside, it’s good enough for the plants inside.
Handwash the Dishes
It’s easy just to put the dishes in the dishwasher and let it do its job, but it uses a lot of water. Not to mention, one has to buy the dishwasher detergent to use in it. Handwashing dishes may take a little more time and effort, but it uses less water and I can use the liquid soap I use to wash my hands.
I think by making these few changes, I will save money that I can put aside to buy an iPad mini with retina display. I also think I will appreciate it more knowing what I did to get it.
