Any types of vacations, international or not, cost money, and you have to have the means to travel abroad. The farther you go, the more costly it will be, but don’t be discouraged by that. If you plan your trip intelligently, in advance, and with a certain budget in mind, you can easily accomplish it and enjoy it to the fullest.
I have traveled abroad many times, and I always knew how much money I would be willing to spend on my trips: be it Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, Europe, or any other country. At different points of my life, I dealt with different budgets and I planned accordingly. It did not matter if I spent only $500 or $3000 and more, I still enjoyed all my trips and had a good time.
To be able to travel abroad within my budget, I usually do the following:
I make sure that my passport is up to date.
The current cost of an international passport ranges between $110 and $140, plus processing fees. It takes two to three weeks to get it. You have to have all the necessary paper work ahead of time.
I choose when and where I want to go.
I shop around online for best deals for the airfare and hotels for a particular destination and off-season sales (you usually get the best prices during off-peak times).
I use the tax refund for my extravagant trips.
It is a good idea to set aside a few thousand dollars from your tax refund for your international trip instead of paying for it with your credit card or saving money for it. This way you can have a wonderful, extravagant, and fun international vacation a headache free. Saving money takes time, self-discipline, and a lot of effort.
