Ice skating can be hard for a start. I always found myself falling on my back each time I tried to ice skate. I always wanted to slide gracefully over the ice and I’m glad that lately I can easily do that. Below are some of the tips that helped me learn how to ice skate.
First time I went to ice skate I had heavy clothes and they gave me a hard time when ice skating. I had a pair of jeans and it was uncomfortable to skate in them. Each time I fell they got dump and gave me a hard time the entire time. Skating is an exercise and I sweet a lot when I do it. So I figured out that I had to do some research and change my clothes. If you are trying to learn how to ice skate I strongly suggest warm, thick, leggings, a t-shirt, jackets gloves and a hat. This is what I wore when I learned how to skate and I still ware them everyday.
I had to find the right skates. The skates were comfortable and I fitted in them perfectly. With the robber mating on, I walked around with the skates. This helped me learn how to maintain balance on the skates.
On the ice
This was scary, due to my past experiences. But this time I went straight to edge of the ring and I walked around the edge of the ring. This helped me adjust to the ice and train my body how to balance itself on the ice. I started by moving slowly, I knew that this was not a competition. It’s not easy for the first time but avoiding any jerky movements helps on to remain up on the ice.
The faster I went the simpler it became for me to maintain my balance. This is the secret of maintaining balance on the ice. I was relaxed and I leaned forward, I was with my friend and this was important because I had someone to learn from. Each time I would feel like falling I would bend my knees and put my arms on the my side this helped in maintaining my balance. Squatting also helped me learn how to maintaining my balance.
This was the most amazing part. Leaning on my week leg I stroked with my strong leg which is my right leg. I started slowly and eventually I could make long strides and glide forward. The secret of gliding is bending the knees and moving the body with the strokes.
This was a little challenging at first. I learnt how to bend my knees slightly I word and press with both my legs. Also stopping with the wall helped a little bit before I learnt how to stop on my own.
Learning how to ice skate was not that easy. I did not learn how to do it within a day. Practice always makes perfect. Each day when I go ice skating I get better. When learning how to ice skate I had to ignore all those who were looking at me or laughing when I fell down, it’s a process of learning too.
