At the age of 24, I was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome. I was in complete agony and decided I was going to find a way to overcome this awful annoyance that had come upon me. I now no longer suffer with restless leg syndrome. I am going to share my story with you, tell you how I was cured, and hopefully help someone else overcome restless leg syndrome.
When I was 24 years old, I began having terrible pains in my legs. I would have to get up and walk around, never able to sit for more than a minute or two. I was pregnant with my daughter at the time and all I wanted was to rest. When I would sit my legs would jump and jerk, pain would shoot down them. I was becoming very angry with my body and didn’t understand what could be wrong.
I made an appointment with my doctor and told them what was going on. I told them I had never experienced anything like this before and I couldn’t continue with this pain in my legs. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t sit down to rest, and I was in constant pain because of my legs. The doctor explained to me that I had a condition known as restless leg syndrome she stated that it was probably due to the pregnancy and it would pass as soon as I had the baby.
At that point I was only four months pregnant, I couldn’t imagine another five months of that awful pain in my legs. It occurred to me what if this doesn’t pass after I have the baby, what if this continues on. I was upset when I left the doctor’s office, having received no kind of relief. Then I began to think about what the doctor had said. It was due to the pregnancy. It occurred to me that maybe there was a possibility the baby was taking a much needed vitamin away from me and that was what had caused this to happen.
I immediately went home and began doing research on every vitamin I could find. I spent hours finding out exactly what each vitamin was responsible for what its health benefits were. I came across an article stating that a lack of Iron could be the problem; this was not possible with me because I already took an Iron supplement daily dot to being anemic. I started getting frustrated until I came upon a website that spoke about Potassium and how a lack of Potassium would cause things such as muscle spasms in the legs.
I was very excited and went out immediately; bought the biggest bottle of Potassium I could find, as soon as I got home I took some. Within hours I could feel the difference. I began taking Potassium every day, and every day I got a little better. Within a month, restless leg syndrome was just a bad memory. I have read that it is not proven that Potassium has any effect on restless leg syndrome, but in my case the lack of Potassium in my diet had a huge effect on my legs.
I still take Potassium every day because I never want to feel the pain of restless leg syndrome again, I know I am doing myself a favor taking it and enjoying all the health benefits of Potassium without having to eat 5 bananas a day. I give all the credit to this wonderful little vitamin that completely took the pain of restless leg syndrome away from me. My days are now spent pain free. I can sit and watch a movie with my children and I sleep through the night without having to get up and walk around. I encourage anyone who suffers from this disease to speak to their doctor about a possible lack of vitamins causing the pain.
