I was born with many different medical problems and as a result I had always tried to stay in shape. Unfortunately, when my medical problems got worse, I was less active and as a result I began to gain weight at a fast rate. It was causing my medical problems to get worse, and I knew I had to make a big change. As a result, I decided to change my exercise routine and my diet to lose 40 pounds in six months. I’m going to go step by step through my process of changing my eating habits so that I can assist others in meeting their own fitness and health goals.
Healthy drinks and healthy food
Have you ever noticed how much sugar is placed in a lot of the drinks we consume these days? It’s hard to keep track of all the different additives, but I knew that I had to get a handle on all of it and do so quickly. I decided to start doing research and quickly found out that soda was the biggest contributor to weight gain and lower metabolism. It was then I choose to stop drinking soda for good and instead focus on drinking water and 100 percent fruit juices. I did this immediately, and if I had it to do over again, I would have done so gradually. When you go off soft drinking, be sure to do so at a slow rate as caffeine withdraw has many negative side effects, and I had constant headaches for weeks as a result. Water itself helps to regulate your metabolism and as a result it will put your body into equilibrium and actually help to speed up your metabolism which will in turn help you burn off fat. Within the first month of cutting out caffeinated and sugar-heavy drinks, I lost 15 pounds.
Limit those sweets and cut out the fat
The next major change to my diet came in the form of cutting out things like ice cream and sugar laden things, as well as anything that contained over 20 percent fat. To make this easy, take a calculator to the store with you like I did the first few times and see how much of the calories you are eating is actually fat. If an item tells you that out of 200 calories, over 40 are in the form of fat, you know that it’s probably not the best for you. This way you quickly learn what you should eat and what you shouldn’t eat. Sure, I looked weird the first few times using a calculator to figure it all out, but I was able to get into a routine and soon enough I instinctively bought things that I knew were healthy for me. For this reason, I was able to lose a total of 55 pounds in just six months, and I have been able to keep it off by just following the meal plan I set out for myself.
