Any chance to get away with the family is a good one, so don’t let Memorial Day pass you by. It’s a short holiday so a good road trip is on the cards, nothing too long and too far away, but still packed full of excitement and fun. Here are a few tips on how to make your short vacation go with a fabulous bang!
On The Road.
Don’t drive for a long time – kids get bored and a long drive can really get them playing up.
Memorial Day is only three days long, so don’t choose a destination that is more than four hours away so you can maximize your family holiday time.
What To Pack For The Journey.
Always remember a cooler so that you have lots of cold water. Also, have plenty of snacks available. Don’t forget that drinks and snacks need to be kept in the front of the car and easily accessible. I have experienced craziness when my kids were desperate and we were on the freeway with no place to pull over.
Remember to bring activities – our favorites were always puzzle books, paper, and crayons.
Games To Play On The Journey.
The alphabet game – check out signs and find words starting with A then B and so on. First one to get to Z wins.
Famous People – take it in turns to name a famous person until somebody misses a go, do this until somebody wins.
I went to America – take it in turns to say “I went to America and I bought something beginning with A, Apple. Next person mentions the apple and something beginning with B, do this until you get to Z.
Get Out Of The Car.
Don’t spend the whole time in the car, get out and take a break. Get off the freeway and find a nice spot to walk around. This will stop the kids from getting fidgety.
Rush Hour Traffic.
Try to travel off peak or you’ll be exhausted and frustrated pretty quickly, especially if the weather’s warm and you are constantly sitting in traffic. It also wastes precious time.
The more you plan ahead, the better you will enjoy your weekend away with the children.
