March can be quite the celebratory month. With a handful of special holidays and spring break thrown in, you will never be short on revelry this month. Here are five hosting hacks for every party in March.
March 7 – Cereal Day
Put down the fiber cereal. Today is a day to celebrate cereal at every meal. Set up a breakfast bar with all the sugary goodies and let your family create their own surprising combos. At lunch, include a cup of granola cereal to add on top of a yogurt parfait. At dinner, try a cornflakes-encrusted baked chicken. For your after-dinner treat, you can’t go wrong with a new twist on Rice Krispie treats!
March 14 – Pi Day
Who knew March was such a foodie month! Throw a Pi party, and have guests bring their favorite pie — pizza pies, Shephard’s pies, icebox pies — anything goes!. Don’t forget to have several sweet pies to go along with your main dishes! This feels like a good occasion to have a Big Bang Theory marathon as you stuff your pie hole!
March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day
May the luck of the Irish be with you this St. Patty’s Day, lad! Unfortunately, it’s on a Monday this year. On the bright side, you could spend all weekend prior wearing your best kelly green and drinking ALL the green beer. I think a dinner is in order, so whip up the corned beef sliders, Irish soda bread and, of course, these Guinness cupcakes! Extra points if you can find a festive parade to attend.
March 16 – 2014 March Madness begins
If you’re a basketball fan, you might be counting down the days until March Madness begins. Grab all your buddies for a little Sunday-afternoon bracket party. Wait until all the teams are announced and then start filling in your online brackets before the games begin on March 20. You will of course need beer, brats, and basketball team colors. Start your wagers!
March 20 – First Day of Spring
Say sayonara, Polar Vortex with a welcome to spring dinner. Host family or friends for a light, simple meal with fresh ingredients and bright decor. Set the table with a pop of color (tulips in a blue mason jar would be perfect). Serve in-season vegetables alongside oven-roasted salmon. Finish up with a festive dessert, like these Spring Bird’s Nest cookies.
Welcome, March! I’m excited for all of your festivities.
