May 7: Royals (16-17) 8, Padres (15-20) 0 — Box Score
The Kansas City Royals exploded for 14 hits and eight runs to support starter James Shields’ eight shutout frames to trounce the San Diego Padres 8-0. Eric Hosmer led the way for K.C. as he went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs.
The Royals didn’t waste any time as they got on the board early and often. The “early” came in the form of a three-run first inning. Hosmer singled home a pair of runs and Danny Valencia eventually singled him home to give K.C. a 3-0 lead after one.
Hosmer added to his big day with two more RBI singles in the sixth and eighth frames.
Meanwhile, Shields was cruising on the mound. He scattered seven hits and two walks while throwing 118 pitches. On the other side, Padres starter Andrew Cashner struggled to find any kind of rhythm as he allowed four runs (two earned). He threw 92 pitches in just four innings.
Important things to note: Royals relief pitcher Aaron Crow pitched a perfect eighth inning. In his 14 games this year, he has yet to allow an earned run. He has thrown 12.1 innings and allowed just six hits with his spotless 0.00 ERA.
