With several options to choose from, one location a lot of authors consider when planning the release party for their novel is either their own home or the home of a friend. While there are several pros and cons to this option, what are the biggest ones? You know, the ones that could be a deal breaker or the aspect that makes you start party planning for a party in your home?
One of the biggest pros to hosting your party at home is that you won’t have to pay any kind of hosting site fee. Certainly, you will still have party expenses, for decorations and food, but for the actual site, that cost will be free, free, free. And, who doesn’t like free stuff?
Unfortunately, with the biggest pro of a free cost, the biggest con is having your party at your house limits your promotion-unless of course you want a bunch of strangers knowing where you live and coming into your home. While a book release party can be just a celebration with you, your family, and your friends, you should also host the event at a place where the general public can attend and, of course, buy your book.
PRO-NO DATE LIMIT
Because you are planning in your own home any date is a good date and no date is off limits. You don’t have to worry about if someone else has booked your site for the day and time you want. Nor do you have to worry about running out of time because someone is waiting to start their party after yours.
CON-A LOT OF WORK
Hosting a party in your home means you are going to be in for a lot of work. Cleaning, preparing your home, preparing and serving the food, and worst of all, the after party clean up are all daunting tasks that will probably exhaust you just thinking about them.
