The skin under your eyes is thin and contains many blood vessels, which makes the area more sensitive. Allergies, stress, insomnia, hormone changes, and crying can all cause the blood vessels to swell giving you dark circles and/or swelling. Instead of spending money on creams and lotions from the drugstore or simply dealing with it, you can make an easy home remedy that works very well.
All of these items should be easy to find online or through your local drugstore.
– Cotton pads
– Witch hazel
– Pure chamomile essential oil (I get mine through Amazon)
– Clean and empty 4 ounce bottle with a lid
Fill the 4 ounce empty bottle about 3/4 full with witch hazel then add four drops of the essential oil. Screw the lid back on, shake well, and store in the fridge until you need to use it. You don’t have to keep it in the refrigerator, but the cool liquid feels wonderful, especially when your eyes are puffy.
How To Use It:
Soak two of the cotton pads with the chamomile and witch hazel mixture. You want to be sure the pads are saturated though not dripping. Lie down and close your eyes, placing one cotton pad over each eye. Rest for 5-10 minutes while the treatment takes effect.
After removing the cotton pads be sure to allow your skin to dry before opening your eyes since the mixture will sting. If you get any in your eyes, flush with cool, clear water until the stinging sensation is gone. You can use this as often as you need to. When I’m not sleeping well I often use this remedy twice a day since it really soothes my eyes.
Why It Works:
Witch hazel tightens skin tissue and reduces swelling due to the tannins in it that act as a natural astringent. Pure chamomile essential oil is an anti-inflammatory and also stimulates the blood vessels, increasing the flow of blood. Keeping the mixture cold by storing it in the fridge also helps reduce swelling.
When you’ve got circles or bags under your eyes give this remedy a try. I’ve found it to work better than anything I’ve bought at the store.
