On March 21, one of the biggest and most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusives will be released. Infamous: Second Son is the third entry in the Infamous series. The previous two games were exclusive to the PS3, and the series’ first step into the next generation gives every indication that it will truly be something special.
The Infamous series is developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is an open world action-adventure series, with a focus on superpowers and the moral choices that accompany having such powers. The first game stars a young man named Cole MacGrath, who develops electricity-based superpowers after an accident devastates the city he lives in. Infamous 2 is a direct sequel, also following Cole.
Infamous: Second Son, however, will be the first in the series to have a new protagonist. This time, players will control a character named Delsin Rowe. Delsin begins with healing powers, but when he fights and defeats other Conduits (the name the series gives to people who gain these powers), he can absorb their powers.
We don’t know all of Delsin’s powers yet, but “smoke” and “neon” powers have already been revealed. We look forward to seeing the rest-especially with the next-gen capabilities of the PS4. From what has been shown of Second Son, it makes full use of the graphical power of the system, including intense, incredible particle effects that turn Delsin’s powers into a spectacular show. The developers have also promised beautiful lighting effects that capture the mood and a realistic view of every time of day. While the game does not have a dynamic time system (where it would gradually progress from day to night based on the amount of time the player spent in the game), the time of day will change along the course of the story, to lock in the timeline and give every incident the most appropriate mood and atmosphere. Whatever else Second Son turns out to be, we can bet it will be a visual feast.
Of course, in addition to super powers, action-adventure gameplay, and an open world, we can expect moral choices and a karma system from Second Son, as they have been mainstays of the series. Previous games in the series have had a fairly binary moral system, meaning that you can choose to perform good actions or evil actions, with very little in between. From what has been revealed about Second Son, the system will likely function along the same lines. Some players have taken issue with this, but it is not necessarily a bad thing, especially in a series that has a definite canon storyline, as Infamous does. Once the game is released, we can see how it works in practice.
Infamous: Second Son cheats are also expected to make an appearance. Due to the nature of the game, there will probably be combat tips, boss fight strategies, and tricks to earn a lot of XP. Additionally, since the karma system affects the gameplay, we can expect guides to getting more good or evil points. There should be hints to getting some of the trickier trophies, as well. In fact, there could be many things-special unlockables, Easter eggs referencing other games, and more.
March is an exciting month for video game releases, and March 21 will be one of the most exciting days. With a brand-new protagonist and story, cool new powers, awesome visuals, and the fun gameplay fans have come to expect from the series, Infamous: Second Son sounds like it will be a great experience all around. Best of all, we have just under a week to go before we can learn firsthand what this game has in store.
