Snow on St. Patrick’s Day! How many of us will be drinking green beer today with snow outside? This should be a first for most of us, as St. Patty’s Day is just as much about welcoming the greening of our world, as it is about St.Patrick.
St. Patrick’s Day typically means that winter is over, and that beautiful lime green is about to emerge. There is also something about March that makes us want to transition into something new. As the March winds blow out the old winter leaves and debris, so does it feel like it’s blowing in winds of change for the rest of us. This day feels lucky. Even with the snow. This is a day to do all those things you have been putting off. To transition into a new way of being. Out with the old, in with the new…is what rings in our ears every St.Patty’s Day! Another time to celebrate, and we can celebrate anything new we want to do or become, as the earth is about to renew itself too!
We have a way of getting stuck in old patterns. The changing of the seasons for many of us on the East Coast is a welcomed way of recognizing the transitions in our life, as well as the passage of time. Our memories are exaggerated by the backdrop of snow, blue skies, fall foliage, or summer fun at the beach. It’s a great way to mark the events of our life, and to recognize the changes of the past, and new dreams of our future. St Patty’s day feels like our second chance on New Years. Wasn’t it too cold to make sure we followed thru on our promises of getting in shape by summer?
But here in March, the occasional warm breeze reminds us that warm weather and less clothing is just around the corner. One last beer today, and we can start on our Spring time selves tomorrow! Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. Make this holiday your own, and celebrate life and the good times to come. If you do, the luck of the Irish will follow you, and this may be the year you find that pot of gold at the end of your rainbow!
