In honor of Father’s Day, let’s recognize celebrity fathers who have adopted their children. They have accepted the challenges of fatherhood in spite of their busy schedules.
Brad Pitt might be the most well-known celebrity dad on the planet. He and Angelina Jolie have adopted three children: Maddox, Pax and Zahara. They also have three biological children: Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox. Pitt stated in a Parade Magazine article, “When Angie and I first met, we came together quite quickly and we decided we were adopting.”
There have been reports that they are planning to adopt again. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The word on the street is that Pitt will be starring in a movie written by Jolie. Apparently, nothing is official with this Jolie-Pitt production either.
Other celebrity dads who have adopted include Ewan McGregor, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise and Hugh Jackman.
How awesome would it be to have Wolverine as your dad? Due to fertility problems, Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborah Furness, decided it was time to begin the adoption process. They have adopted a son, Oscar, and a daughter, Ava.
Hugh Jackman commented on the Katie Couric Show, “To be clear, Deb and I always wanted to adopt,” he explains. “We didn’t know where in the process that would happen, but biologically, obviously, we tried and it was not happening for us. The moment Oscar was born all the heartache melted away. You can’t prepare for that moment, nothing can prepare you,” Jackman stated.
After having difficulty adopting in Australia, Furness has also spearheaded National Adoption Awareness Week. The organization wants prospective parents around the world to have fewer challenges during the adoption process. Their website is http://www.adoptionawarenessweek.com.au/Home.
Jackman’s latest film, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” is in theaters now.
Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, adopted their son, Zachary Jackson Levon, through a surrogate mother in 2010. John had been turned down for adoption by government officials due to his age and marital status. In 2010, John was 63 years old. John and Furnish have been married since 2005.
John and Furnish also adopted a second son, Elijah Joseph, through the same surrogate mother. Her identity is classified information and unknown to the public. The proud fathers are very grateful to the mother for helping them have children. They are very protective of her identity and think of her as a family member. John has also claimed that he wished he had adopted sooner because the children have been a blessing in their lives.
John told Hello Magazine that he was concerned about whether he could love the second child as much as the first. However after the birth of the child, he said, “But I have learned that a parent’s capacity for love is endless. When another child is born, our depth of love just grows deeper and wider, so it was very emotional.”
John appeared at the Bonnaroo Music Festival this past May. He also has tour dates throughout the summer. The list of dates can be found at https://tour.eltonjohn.com/. John can also be seen in Fall Out Boy’s latest video, “Save Rock and Roll.”
Happy Father’s Days to all of the proud celebrity dads!
