When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. One of the most valuable status effects in the game is weakened. Weakened enemies have attack value decreased by 25%, which roughly equates to a 25% decrease in damage. Weakened also replaces strengthened, which effectively reduces the attack value of an enemy by 40%. The following guide to the best heroes that can apply weakened in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Dr. Doom – You suffer a massive penalty when you include Dr. Doom on your team. A team with Dr. Doom can’t have any other heroes on it, so you only have two characters total, including your agent, rather than three. Arc Lightning is a power that helps make up for this character deficit. It not only applies weakened to a single target, but it also applies impaired and deals exceptionally high damage to boot. Weakened and impaired stack, decreasing enemy damage by roughly 40% – 50% and prevents the enemy from dealing critical hits. The inability to score critical hits decreases average damage by at least 20% on most characters and quite a bit more on some. Dr. Doom is the only tactician that can weaken an enemy and while this isn’t an area attack, between his two attacks per round and potential for an additional with tactical maneuvers, he can weaken all enemies in a single round.
Rogue – Drain Essence is the kind of power that can turn a fight around completely. Not only does it apply weakened to a single enemy, but Rogue is healed for roughly half her health and stamina after using the power. The biggest drawback to this power is that it can only be used every other round, but it is the kind of power that rarely needs to be used more than once per battle.
Captain Britain – Captain Britain is roughly equivalent to Dr. Doom in his ability to weaken opponents except he doesn’t get two actions per round, but also doesn’t limit you to only two characters. Right Makes Might applies both weakened and dizzied, which together decrease the average damage of an enemy by approximately 40%. Additionally, the attack deals even more damage than Arc Lightning. Furthermore, due to Heir to the Otherworld, Captain Britain has a chance of gaining a bonus attack on most rounds, which means you can potentially hit two enemies with this attack every round. Finally, he is the only bruiser in the game that can apply weakened assuredly.
Havok – There isn’t a single hero in the game that can apply weakened to all enemies assuredly, but Havok is the next best thing. He can apply pressure points to all enemies with an attack that is catastrophic. Since it is catastrophic, there is no way for it to be avoided or for it to be protected against. The chance of weakened getting applied is completely random for each enemy, but on average, at least one enemy will be affected. Combine this with a hero that can apply weakened as a single target attack and you should be able to weaken all enemies in a single round more than half the time. As an added benefit, this attack has no cooldown so you can use it every single round.
Spiral – Similar to Havok, Spiral can also apply pressure points to all enemies using her Macabre Fandango attack. Unlike Havok, her attack has a two round cooldown. Additionally, unless you have her equipped with the Rhythmic Empowered ISO-8, she may not have access to this power every round. Still, it has three major benefits that make Spiral particularly good for applying weakened. First, when she uses Macabre Fandango, she also applies rising up to all allies. Weakened is particularly devastating when combined with fortified on your allies. Second, the power is subtle, so it can never be countered or protected against. Finally, any time she is attacked she has a 20% chance to avoid the attack completely and use Macabre Fandango in response. This use of the power ignores cooldown completely and doesn’t cost stamina. Thus, there is a chance she will weaken enemies without even acting.
