When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. Granting or gaining an extra turn is nearly the most powerful ability in the game. Every extra turn is effectively like having an extra hero in the battle, similar to the way that losing a turn is like losing a hero. The ability to grant or gain extra turns is moderately rare, though enough heroes have it that there are better and worse options to choose from. The following guide to the best extra turn heroes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Cable – Every other round, as a quick action, Cable can use Temporal Shift to grant an extra action to any hero on your team. Since it is a quick action and Cable can restore stamina with half of his attack powers, this is effectively a free extra turn every other round. While you can use this on Cable, it is usually much more effective to use it on a hero that normally requires multiple rounds to build up to a powerful combination, like Deadpool. Also, since the power has no cooldown, it is possible to use this in PvP to gain two full actions before the enemy acts.
Angel – When Angel uses Rapture, he grants an extra turn to both of his allies as a quick action. This extra turn is delayed a round and it comes at the cost of his turn in the following round, but it is still a good deal. Rapture itself is an attack, so he is granting these extra turns while attacking an enemy. Additionally, since it is a quick action attack, Angel gets to act again this round as well. Including the quick action, Rapture effectively grants three actions for the cost of one. That is an even better deal than Cable, except for the delayed benefit.
Magneto – Magnetic Field is a win-win situation. When used, it puts a shield on all of your allies. If that shield is destroyed with damage, the character behind the shield gets an immediate extra turn. Essentially, either you gain a bunch of extra actions or the enemies don’t attack your characters. Even if a shield is broken, that means it absorbed a bunch of damage before giving you a free action. It is possible you will get no extra turns from Magnetic Field, but if that happens, then no member of your team took enough damage to break the shield. That is basically as good a scenario as gaining extra turns.
Uncanny Cyclops – Uncanny Cyclops has a passive ability that has a chance of granting an extra turn to a member of your team after that team mate makes an attack. This isn’t particularly handy on a team that primarily uses buff or debuff powers, but is great when the team most uses attack powers. The ability is random, but tends to activate about once per round when all heroes are attacking. That is a roughly 33% increase in actions that doesn’t require using a specific power or spending stamina.
Mockingbird – Mockingbird can only gain extra turns for herself, and only at most once per round, but her chance of gaining an extra turn is quite high. Any time she changes class she has a 50% chance to gain an extra turn. She can potentially change class when attacking or when attacked and will always change class the first time she attacks if she has the Predictive Empowered ISO-8 equipped. As an added benefit, she can potentially become a tactician when fighting a blaster and gain an extra action from tactical maneuvers that stacks with her special extra action.
Amazing Spider-Man – Even in his original outfit, Spider-Man has a reasonably strong ability to gain an extra turn. He can use Spider Sense as a quick action and then the next time he is attacked he gain an extra turn. Due to his Great Responsibility special ability, he has a good chance of getting attacked, even if the enemy tries to attack another target. In his Amazing Spider-Man outfit, Spider-Man additionally can gain an extra turn after making a counterattack or a follow-up attack and this extra turn stacks with the one gained from Spider Sense. Unless an enemy of the correct class exists in a battle, Spider-Man does not innately have any ability to do either, but you can easily pair him with a hero like Cyclops that can grant him a counterattack ability.
