When building a team in Marvel: Avengers Alliance, you often want to include heroes that can apply specific status effects. The main way to increase hero damage in this game is to increase the attack of your heroes or decrease the defense of your enemies. But, there are some status effects that directly increase the damage your heroes deal or increase damage enemies take. This is useful because it stacks with all forms of increased attack and even works when your heroes are neutralized. The following guide to the best damage buffing heroes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you choose the character that will best help your team.
Shatterstar – Pain is one of the best status effects in the game for directly increasing damage that enemies receive. It causes the enemy to take 8% more damage and stacks up to three times. Shatterstar can apply this effect to all enemies with a stealthy attack using Blade Maelstrom. Furthermore, he both follows up and counters with Blade Maelstrom. Additionally, his Mojo Skewer attack can put tenderized on an enemy, which increases the damage that enemy takes from slashing attacks. All but one of Shatterstar’s attacks is of the slashing type and it is easy to pair him with another hero that uses all slashing attacks. He isn’t so effective against a single enemy, but when facing multiple enemies, he is quite solid at increasing damage.
Gambit – The other hero that efficiently applies the pain status effect is Gambit. He doesn’t have the ability to inflict it on multiple enemies with a single action, but he can sometimes inflict it as a quick action. His Ace of Spades power is a quick action when he has a stack of kinetic charge to consume. Ace of Spades also inflicts exposed, which reduces defense. Furthermore, Gambit will occasionally randomly counter attack with Ace of Spades against enemies that attack his allies. Finally, he has an additional way to increase damage dealt to enemies. His Royal Flush attack inflicts wide-open on all enemies, which increases the damage they take from melee attacks.
Ms. Marvel – Ms. Marvel has tricks for both increasing her own damage and increasing the damage of any team member. Passively, she gains increased damage any time she is subject to an energy attack and this increased damage can stack up to three times. Additionally, her Absorb Energy power increases the damage she deals with her next Brawl attack and the damage she deals with her next Photon Blast attack. That is potentially a massive increase in damage from effects that don’t actually increase attack. Furthermore, both Brawl and Photon Blast applies status effects that increase the damage the enemy hit takes from the next melee or ranged attack, respectively. This can either benefit a teammate if your team is ganging up or benefit Ms. Marvel if she is the only hero attacking an enemy.
Black Widow – Black Widow also can increase the damage that all allies deal by applying debuffs to enemies. Her Revenge Tactics passive ability applies marked for revenge to any enemy that attacks her, though the status effect is removed from any enemies it is currently affecting when she inflicts it on a new enemy. This effect increases all damage that the enemy takes from attacks. Furthermore, her Martial Arts Combo attack inflicts combo setup, which increases the damage the enemy takes from the next unarmed attack. All of her attacks are unarmed attacks, even if she isn’t paired with a hero who has unarmed attacks. Finally, her Widowmaker power doesn’t directly increase damage, but it makes all attacks automatically hit and score a critical against a single enemy, which synergizes well with damage increasing effects.
