Variant uniforms were introduced early in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance. At first, they only provided an alternate class for some characters, but eventually they were given unique powers from the original costumes. For most of the first year, only older characters got alternate costumes, but slowly more alternate costumes were introduced for a wide variety of characters. You would probably like to get all of the variant costumes, but they cost command points, which is a very limited resource in this game. If you are looking to pick up an alternate costume, the following are the best variant costumes released for Marvel: Avengers Alliance in 2013.
Uncanny Cyclops (Chapter Mastery Reward) – Depending on you look at it, this is either dreadfully expensive or free. This costume is a mastery reward for chapter 2 of season 2. You need dozens of other heroes in your roster to gain this costume. If you already own them, then with patience you will get this outfit. Otherwise, you potentially need to spend over 1000 CPs. This costume adds two major improvements to Cyclops. He can grant extra turns to team members and he has a 25% chance of resurrecting a teammate when they die. Both abilities are amazing and simply enhance an already excellent character.
Blue Costume Quicksilver (32/45 CP) – This costume improves Quicksilver in two very meaningful ways. First, he will occasionally make a pre-emptive attack that deals massive damage against enemies when they take any action. This is great for a character that generally deals low damage. Second, one of the two choices turns him into a generalist which means that he no longer get destroyed by bruisers. There really is no downside here.
Iron Patriot (50/66 CP) – While this suit is expensive, it is totally worth it. Iron Patriot gains a passive ability that allows him to create a shield and gain a stack of charged capacitors before an attack is made against him. This greatly increases both his offense and defense. Additionally, his powers gain extra abilities. The most important extra ability is that Minigun Barrage applies stacks of ongoing radiation damage. With this costume, Iron Patriot becomes one of the best alpha strikers in the game.
Swashbuckler Nightcrawler (32/45 CP) – The biggest flaw of Nightcrawler is that his damage output is very low. This costume solves that problem completely by adding bleeding to all of his attacks as well as hemorrhaging attack to Ambush. This is a major boost to his damage output against anyone not immune to bleeding. With this costume, Nightcrawler rises from the lower end of the hero spectrum to bottom of the top tier heroes.
Mighty Thor (51/66 CP) – If not for Uncanny Cyclops, this would easily be the best of the alternate costumes released for Marvel: Avengers Alliance in 2013. This outfit allows Thor to stack Might of Mjolnir up to three times and grants his entire team the Storm Herald passive ability. Storm Herald occasionally follows up a single target attack or counters a single target attack with a lightning strike that also causes and triggers static charge. This chaining damage is devastating, especially in PvP. With good team selection and the right agent gear, you can use this ability to tear through enemies in no time.
