Overview – Of all the Marvel: Avengers Alliance Warriors Three heroes, Hogun is the best individually. His powers combine very efficiently and he easily deals the most damage. Unfortunately, he is the least synergistic with the other two Warriors Three, making him a solid choice if he is the only one you intend to get, but less stellar if you want to build a Warriors Three team. He is particularly good at dealing offense quickly, which makes him a possible offensive choice for a PvP team and makes him particularly good in incursions. Also, he will tend to be good at evening the odds in boss fights. He isn’t the best beater in the game, but his added flexibility from his solid support abilities makes him a top tier character worth owning.
How to Obtain – Hogun can be acquired in one of two ways. He was the Adamantium reward for season 14 of PvP. If not acquired that way, he will be available for purchase, starting in summer of 2014, for 135 command points.
Special Abilities – Asgardian / Way of the Warrior / Path of Mastery – Asgardian makes this character immune to poison, chilled, burning, and radiation. This benefit is less valuable than on other characters because of his Elixir of Recovery power. Way of the Warrior gives him a chance to counter attack when an ally is attacked or follow-up an ally attack and this chance is 100% if the ally is a member of the Warriors Three. Additionally, this attack applies pain and target focus to the target, increasing future damage. Finally, Path of Mastery treats this hero as both a scrapper and an infiltrator. This makes him very susceptible to high damage from counter classes, but also greatly increases his potential damage output.
Windup Swing (Level 1) – Windup Swing is a high damage single target melee attack that has a moderately high stamina cost. The attack ignores defense and has the additional benefit of causing the next attack this character hits with to deal additional damage and automatically score a critical hit. This is a perfect setup attack and should almost always be used before using Meteor Smash.
Overwhelming Presence (Level 2) – Overwhelming Presence is a quick action power that places fumbling and flanked on all enemies. It can’t be used in the first round of battle, but should be used as soon as it is available and used in any later round when it becomes available. This power massively increases the damage output of everyone on your team.
Elixir of Recovery (Level 6) – Elixir of Recovery has multiple effects. First, all allies deal additional damage on counter attacks and follow-up attacks. Additionally, all Warriors Three heal slightly, restore some stamina, lose all current debuffs, and gain well fed. Because this removes debuffs, you may want to wait to use this until later rounds, but it is also a very good opening move. This hero makes a lot of counter attacks and follow-up attacks and this damage increase is significant. It is particularly good if used on the same round as Overwhelming Presence.
Meteor Smash (Level 9) – Meteor Smash deals incredibly high melee damage to a single enemy for a massively high stamina cost. This already high damage is increased due to the attack ignoring defense, ignoring evasion effects, and dealing additional damage on a critical hit. When used after Windup Swing, the damage from this attack is highly likely to one-shot most normal enemies and severely damage bosses, especially if they were previously hit with target focus and pain. Anytime this hero has breakthrough buff, you should use this attack.
Unlocks – This character is not currently required to unlock any game content but will likely be required to unlock a special operation epic boss in late 2014 or beyond.
PvP – Hogun is slightly above average in PvP, but like many heroes, potentially suffers from the plethora of buff and debuff removing powers and equipment. Rescue, in particular, absolutely devastates him, which is a problem due to her prevalence. As long as the popular tacticians can apply off-balance and infiltrators remain unpopular, this hero will not be a top tier PvP choice, but he isn’t a waste and could easily surprise opponents if you put him on a defensive team. If you do use him, you probably want to make sure you either have the Asgardian Tankard equipped to your hero or team him with another Warriors Three.
Variant Uniforms – This Marvel: Avengers Alliance character does not currently have a variant uniform, but may get one in the future.
