Hawkeye is the first tactician on your team in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance, and if you want, he can also be one of the first blasters and infiltrators on your team as well. You can take advantage of this flexibility of class by buying some of his alternate costumes. Even with his alternate costumes, he will never be one of the best characters in the game, but you can keep him useful for much longer than normal. The following guide to Hawkeye alternate costumes in Marvel: Avengers Alliance will help you decide whether these costumes are worth your investment.
Heroic Age Hawkeye – Tactician, 27CP / Blaster, 42CP
Special Ability: Loaded Quiver – Whenever this version of Hawkeye fires an arrow, it gains one of a dozen special effects if the attack hits. The special effect is visible before you fire and then the effect that will apply next time changes after each attack. These effects will even change in between shots gained by the Rapid Fire special ability. Read below for the full effects of each arrow. These effects are added on top of normal damage for the attack.
Adamantium Arrow – Brutal Strike / Fatal Blow.
Glue Arrow – Webbed / Constricted.
Shrapnel Arrow – Bleeding / Ravaged.
Sonic Arrow – Dizzy / Weakened.
Impact Arrow – Staggered / Off-Balance.
Electric Arrow – Drain Stamina / Static Charge.
Toxic Gas Arrow – Poisoned / Incapacitated.
Net Arrow – Slowed / Exposed.
Smoke Bomb Arrow – Disoriented / Blinded.
Incendiary Arrow – Burning / Pyrophoric.
Magno-Volt Arrow – Fried Circuits / Magnetized.
Freezing Arrow – Chilled / Frozen.
Team-Ups – While his ability to apply negative status effects is almost completely random, Hawkeye is very good at applying them. This makes any character that has exploitation powers a good choice. The more exploitation powers a hero can use the better, though exploiting ongoing damage and paragon exploiter are your best choices. Also, this is one of the rare heroes that can apply webbed, so he is moderately better at pairing with Spider-Man than other heroes.
Overall – If you want to upgrade Hawkeye, this should be your top choice uniform. The status effects he applies are generally useful, even if random. And you do have some minor control over who you apply effects to, at least with your first attack in a sequence. On average, Hawkeye hits twice with Rapid Shot, which means that you should expect to apply four status effects per attack. That is a pretty good deal. The tactician outfit is probably your better choice here in order to maximize the benefit of status effects.
Avengers Hawkeye – Infiltrator, 38CP / Tactician, 30CP
Special Ability: Avengers Assemble – This ability grants Coordinated Attack to the entire team or gives Coordinated Defense if the team already has Coordinated Attack. These abilities grant occasional extra attacks on attack and defense respectively. This is a rather solid benefit for Hawkeye because it increases his chance to use his Rapid Fire special ability.
Team-Ups – The best team up for this version of Hawkeye is Avengers Black Widow, because her Widowmaker power acts exactly like Pinpoint Arrow in terms of allowing Hawkeye to gain the benefit of his Rapid Fire special ability. Black Widow is always a good teammate because of this fact, but Avengers Black Widow gives Hawkeye more potential attacks to take advantage of this benefit.
Overall – There is very little to justify this outfit. If you want an infiltrator version of Hawkeye, this outfit is your only option, but he isn’t needed as an infiltrator in most fights. This may prove handy for an occasional team up in a boss battle, but that is almost the only good benefit. Hawkeye does take advantage of the Avengers alternate costume better than any other hero with this costume, so if you like using that outfit, he is a solid choice to buy it for.
