The 2014 Memorial Day falls on May 26, 2014, but the celebration of our country’s valiant men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us begins way before the 26th. Below is a guide to a few of the myriads of events scheduled to take place this Memorial Day weekend:
UCLA Annual JazzRegggae Festival: It is that time of the year again, when lovers of food, arts, music, and culture, gather together to celebrate! Brought to you by LA Weekly, Amoeba Music and produced by the UCLA Cultural Affairs Commission, this is the largest student-run festival in the USA. The 28th Annual JazzReggae Festival is sure to not disappoint.
For 27 years, this tradition has been entertaining and enriching the lives of local Angelenos with a plethora of experiences encompassing the blending of music, art, food, and culture at the UCLA Westwood campus.
If you are a lover of reggae, rhythm and blues, or soul, you sure are going to have a blast at this two-day celebration beginning on May 25th through the 26th. Up-and-coming artists as well as legendary figures including Erykah Badu, Indie.Arie, Stephen and Damian Marley, Jill Scott, and many more have partook in past events.
This year’s performers will include Snoop Dogg, Ky-Mani Marley, Kevin Lyttle, and Black Uhuru. So get on to their website and get your ticket now. Kids 8 and under get admitted freely, and others go in for general admission fee of $35 per session or $60 both days if purchased in advance. Otherwise, you can get in on the day of the event for $40 per session.
You will need to go online to view all the festival days dos and don’ts, as there are things you may and may not bring with you. As an environmentally conscious entity, JazzRaggae promotes awareness and will have Event Water Solutions refilling water bottles for free, all part of their effort to reduce waste and protect our one planet. Yes, the theme of this year’s event is “Honoring Our Exceptional Educators.” The Garden Grove Annual Strawberry Festivals is tons of fun with free general admissions and unlimited rides for $25 to $30! There will be a formal cutting of the giant strawberries cake, as well as various contests and a 5k run.
