Decorating eggs at Easter time with my teen kids is always a fun time together. I now incorporate natural dyes for our eggs, such as onion skins, beets, cabbage, and instant coffee, which work great as natural colorings. Wrap flowers around the eggs and tie on with string then boil. What you get is a beautiful creation that you finish with a little olive oil.
Colorful Materials to Use
What you put on the basket should be fun to look at. I like to go out to the garden and cut fresh flowers, purchase much needed colored shoe laces, ribbons or any other ideas your teen make think of.
A glue gun works great to attach the items on to the basket, also tie them on with ribbon so it can be easily removed and the “basket” used for something else
Easter Basket Fillers
I always slip in a handwritten Easter card and gently add the eggs that we made together. Depending on the gender of the teen, add essentials such as: hair accessories, brush, comb, lotions, chocolate, gift card, perfume, cologne, gum, are some great ideas.
Dried flowers and herbs in a pretty little sachet are great ideas to add in the basket also. Potpourri sachets for their drawers filled with springtime scents. Bath salts in a pretty bag are also a great idea. For the teen who enjoys to BBQ, add some wood chips for smoking, they smell great and are a unique idea that is a bit more masculine.
Cool Easter Basket Themes
The Pretty, Ribbons and Bows Basket. Specifically for the girly teen girl who loves the soft pastel colors and flowers. This is the basket that is full of sachets, accessories for her hair, bubble bath and lotions. The basket can be re-used for her hair products in her bathroom. Decorated with hair accessories or jewelry. This is dainty and pretty.
The Man-Basket. Don’t forget the boys! The man-basket can be made “manlier”. I like the BBQ wood chip idea with great smelling mesquite or hickory bags. The theme is outdoor and rugged. You can add a sports magazine, hacky sack or any tools they may need for their tool box. Some deodorant from mom and hair gel for the active teen.
Techno-Basket. A basket should be tailored to the individual it is given to. For the technological teen, techno-baskets can have headphones, controller and a game. A gift card to the local game store is always a great idea to let them go and chose what they really want to have. The basket can be put together with wires and any old electrical components.
