For a good graduation party, you will need to cover the basics of food, decorations, and entertainment. Use this guide for some quick and inexpensive ideas on each.
Feeding a large group of people can get quite expensive, you can save money by preparing all the dishes yourself. By avoiding catering, your cost per person will most likely drop immensely. Some simple ideas that people love are chips and dip, you can just buy the chips and make a delicious sour cream based dip or salsa for tortilla chips. A box of crackers and a block of cheese to slice up is another good idea. For soft beverages, skip name brands and if you are serving liquor, use boxed wine and buy beer by the case.
For keeping decorations cheap, you will want to stay simple and classy and avoid gimmicky knick knacks or balloons. Your average helium filled balloons in the school’s colors will work just fine. Having friends and family make a banner instead of having one made will save money and be a bit more meaningful. Some scrapbooks and or photo displays of the graduate can also be fun.
Entertainment doesn’t actually have to cost anything unless you want it to. For music just hook up an mp3 player to some good speakers, which you can borrow from a from a friend if you don’t have any, and play a preplanned playlist and you’re good to go. It is also a good idea to come up with some fun group games for people to play. If you can get together a projector and a screen or even just a TV, you can have a looping slideshow of the graduate.
