For many graduates, a trip after graduation is a rite of passage. For some it will be the European trek and for others, a cross-country odyssey. Many others will just be taking either a family or a solo trip to celebrate the fact that they have graduated.
Knowing that your graduated will be taking off on a traveling adventure, opens up a great opportunity for purchasing a graduation gift that will help them along on their travels. Here are just a few suggestions for gifts that will be appreciated by the traveling graduate.
A brand new backpack is a great option. Most students will have owned several backpacks over their career as a student by now is the time for a fully adult backpack. Make sure it has no team logos or logos of any kind. This is the real thing. Depending on how much you want to spend, leather is a great option that will last for many, many years and frankly just gets better and softer the more use it gets. If leather is too expensive or your graduate is vegan or vegetarian and strongly opposed to any animal products, there are many canvas and parachute materials that are sturdy, practical and light. Be sure to keep the size of the individual in mind, back packers do come in many sizes as do backpacks.
A passport protector wallet is always a good idea especially if you know the graduate will be traveling somewhere that they need to carry a passport. Placing some currency for the country to be visited will always be a welcome gift for any traveler.
Phone cards make an excellent gift. When the graduate is far away from home, they will want to keep in touch with friends and family and often it is expensive and difficult to place phone calls if you don’t have phone cards. Make sure that the phone cards you choose can be used with a cell phone from overseas if that is where they are traveling. It is always reassuring for parents if their graduate is on the big travel adventure without them, has the ability to phone them in case of emergency or just a case of homesickness.
A nice new toiletries bag is a much-appreciated gift by both the veteran and the new traveler. They come in a wide variety of sizes, color and shapes and allow toiletries to be packed into checked luggage without the worry of anything spilling.
Finally, there is not a graduate or a traveler in the world who won’t appreciate the gift of cold hard cash. There are always things that you want to do that you don’t necessarily have the money to afford. The gift of cash allows the graduate to add things to their travel that they might not have been able to do otherwise.
Use your imagination. Think of the things that make your travels better, more interesting and easier. These items will do the same for any graduate and as they make their trip, they will be reminded of the gift that helped them to have a trip they will remember for years to come.
