Everybody has those times of the day when you just have to go. So you take a break from work, and you go into the bathroom and start taking care of business. You may sit there and rush it because you’re busy at work, but I’m recommending that you do not. Whoever may be waiting on you at work can wait just a bit longer for nature, don’t you agree? I advise that you do your utmost to take advantage of this 5-minute break in the day. When you decide to heed my advice and take advantage of these breaks keep some of these things in mind.
This is your time. Know that this is no longer company time. Maybe, technically speaking, this is company time, but I guarantee there is some sort of law that allows you certain rights. Just humor me. Consider these 5 minutes as your time. This is your time to relax and gather your thoughts during this really busy day at work. More than anything this little break will allow you to keep your wits about you and be an easier person to work with all the way around. Also, if you work a slow and boring job, this little break will keep that much closer from going crazy of boredom. Maybe your job is high stress, and all you do is rush all day. If that’s how work is for you then I highly recommend you take this time to give your mental capacity a break.
Reflect. Once you’ve recognized that this is your time, consider how your day has gone so far. Have you had a good day so far? Have you been meeting your standards for the day? Having you been conducting yourself throughout the day the way you know you should be? Ask yourself these things. It’s important to reflect on the things you’ve been doing right and on the things you’ve been doing wrong. This will allow you to recognize the things you may have been doing wrong, and it will allow you to correct them. Go apologize to that fellow worker for being snappy with them because you were stressed. Well, maybe wait till after you get done taking care of business first.
Pray. Once you’ve done these things, take just one last minute to acknowledge the most important thing in your life. Pray and ask God to guide you throughout your day, and ask for a little help if you’re having an especially trying day. Just two minutes dedicated to prayer will dramatically improve your day, and once you recognize Him at this moment, do your best to carry Him with you for the rest of the day. This will keep you conscious of your choices and decisions, and it will help you choose correctly.
So just know that these 5 minutes out of your day can be extremely therapeutic if you just allow them to be. Everyone needs to take these breaks, and these are great things to think about while you’re sitting on the porcelain throne. Have a great day!
