Golf is a passion for many, and becoming more popular each year. It is a hobby that men have enjoyed for many years, with women becoming more involved in the game as time goes by.
There are quite a few golf courses in Baton Rouge for residents and visitors to choose from. Like most things in life, everyone has a favorite, but the number of golf courses in Baton Rouge keeps the sport challenging when you have the opportunity to play at a different golf club or course whenever you need a change of pace or new challenge.

LSU Golf Course
The LSU Golf Course is located on the LSU campus at the corner of Burbank and Nicholson Drive and is open daily to the public. A full service pro shop is located on the premises and a driving range
Green fees are reasonable for the general public with discounts for seniors, LSU students, staff and faculty members. A special “Twilight” rate is good for everyone any day of the week starting at 4:00 p.m. For those wanting to learn how to play golf, golf lessons are offered at $35.00 per hour.
In addition to the 18 hole course, the LSU Golf Course offers a Pitch and Putt Course that is ideal for beginners. LSU also offers a birthday party package for children on the Pitch and Putt Course. There is also a full service pro shop and driving range located on the premises.
This course also hosts a fair amount of tournaments, so call or visit their website before heading out.
Country Club of Louisiana
The Country Club of Louisiana is probably the newest golf course in the city. The club is elite and open to members only, but allow for guests to visit along with a member with special rates for a maximum of eight times per year.
The fairway at the Country Club of Louisiana is simply breathtaking. The course here is lined with ancient oak trees and newly planted oak trees to give the golfers a few extra obstacles to avoid, as if the multiple hills and bunkers along the course are not enough challenge!

Baton Rouge Country Club
The Baton Rouge Country Club is probably the oldest golf course in the city of Baton Rouge. The club was founded in 1912 and remains a private club. You will need to either get your own membership or golf with a friend that is a member of the BRCC.
The golf course is manicured to perfection at the Baton Rouge Country Club and has a fair amount of shade in places thanks to the beautiful old oak trees.

Santa Maria Golf Club (BREC)
The Santa Maria Golf Club is operated by BREC (Baton Rouge Recreation Commission) and is located at 18460 Santa Maria Parkway in Baton Rouge. This golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and covers slightly over 150 acres of land. The 18 hole course is dotted with ancient oak trees, several lakes, small hills and bunkers. Santa Maria Golf Course provides a challenge to the even the best of golfers.
Santa Maria Golf Club has a clubhouse that houses their pro shop, fitness center, and restaurant. They also have a conference center separate from the other facilities for privacy.
City Park Golf Course (BREC)
The golf course at Baton Rouge’s City Park is operated by BREC and holds the distinction of being one of 20 golf courses in the United States that are included on the National Register of Historical Places.
City Park Golf Course is located at 1422 City Park Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA.
Howell Park Golf Course (BREC)
Howell Park Golf Course is another BREC facility that is located at 5511 Winbourne Ave. in Baton Rouge. Although one of the older golf courses in town, the facility is maintained by BREC and still a good choice for mid-city golfers.
The course at Howell Park is one of the shorter courses in town, yet since a canal crosses over half of the holes on the course, still a viable and challenging course to tackle. The Pro Shop offers pull carts and electric carts for a rental fee.

Webb Memorial Golf Course (BREC)
Webb Memorial Golf Course is located in one of the older sections of Baton Rouge just south of Government Street and runs along College and S. Foster Drives. It is also one of the oldest golf courses/clubs in the city. Webb Memorial Golf Course was originally a private club built in the 1920’s. Back at that time in history, this area of town was one of the most influential neighborhoods in Baton Rouge and being a member of the golf club, gave you an elite status among your peers.
Webb Memorial Golf Course offers a fitness center designed just for golfers and contains equipment designed for getting your body physically fit for playing golf.
Improvements have been made to the original course to avoid flooding by updating the drainage system, installing a new irrigation system, reshaping bunkers and adding new bunkers. Additional trees have also been planted along the course.
