I would have loved to sit down with Amy to do this interview but she lives in Canada so that wasn’t going to happen just yet. I caught up to her by phone while she was driving with her Mom to pick up some last minute things she needed for the music video shoot she had scheduled the next day. I wanted to talk to her about her single, “Country Crazy,” dropping on US radio this week and all the other wonderful things that are going on in her career at this time. So you are up in Canada?
A We are. I don’t know if you know where Toronto is, we are about an hour north of Toronto.
Q What’s the weather like up there?
A It’s rainy. We have had snow galore for like the last three months, like literally four winters worth of snow in three months but it’s raining now and it’s flooding.
Q When do you typically get spring or do you?
A Spring is supposed to happen March 21st but its still snowing so who knows if we are even going to get a spring this year.
Q Isn’t Canada a cooler country? Doesn’t it stay cooler all the time?
A Summers get pretty warm. Our hottest months are July and August.
Q That is the way it is here too. So you are going to be at CMA Fest?
A Yes, we have so far two shows down at CMA Fest and we are signing autographs.
Q That sounds like fun. Have you done this before?
A I have performed last year at BB Kings for CMA Fest but this year I am doing a Legends Show which is pretty cool with some awesome well known singers. We are doing the autograph signing as part of CMA Fest so I have more of a presence there this year than last year.
Q That sounds wonderful. So you are releasing a single to radio this week?
A Yeah, yeah, “Country Crazy,” and we are actually shooting the video for it, a two day shoot this weekend.
Q So by the time people read this article, the song will have been released?
Q You must be excited about the music video and the song?
A I am very excited. This is our third video that we are doing and I am hoping that it gets the attention that, “Party like a Red Neck” got. With Party like a Redneck we got almost 1/2 a million views on YouTube.
Q Cool. How long have you been doing this?
A I have been singing since I was five. I entered my first singing competition when I was five at a fair in my hometown of Barrie and I sang, “Stand by your Man,” by Tammy Wynette.
Q I listened to the song, “Country Crazy,” and girlfriend, you have got some set of lungs and a beautiful voice.
A Thank you.
Q I was really impressed. I really enjoyed it too. I can see that song being danced at in Honky Tonks all across America.
A I’m crossing my fingers. My Mom is sitting here with her thumbs up going, “yeah.”
Q That’s too sweet. Your mother is in the room with you?
A We are actually in the car. We are doing some last minute running around before the video shoot. My Mom is my best friend so I call her up and say, “hey let’s go shopping,” and she’s like, “okay.”
Amy spoke of the love she has for her Mom and the rest of her family. We spoke of husbands, children and music. Amy will be in Nashville performing at the CMA Fest June 5th through the 8th.
