With swimsuit season nearly here, it’s time to get healthy, and lose a few pounds. The healthiest and quickest way to do this is by going gluten free, and if you are really motivated doing the Paleo diet. I have been gluten free since 2009 when my chiropractor finally discovered why I was sick all the time…he told me to go gluten free. Within 24 hours I felt so much better, and within a week I had lost 5lbs. Since then I’ve had 2 children (5 in total) and had a much easier time losing the baby weight because of the diet.
Gluten is found in many products, i.e. granola bars, sauces and makeup to name just a few. Whether or not you have an issue with gluten (Celiac Disease or gluten sensitivity), removing it from your diet can quickly take away bloating, increase energy and overall performance. Active.com reports that many athletes are going this route to help with weight control and inflammation.
When you begin your diet it’s important to look at what you can eat, and not focus too much on what you cannot have.
- Egg whites and turkey sausage
- Fruit and non-fat yogurt smoothie
- GF granola bar
- GF oatmeal
- Guacamole and veggies
- Hummus and veggies
- Low fat cheese stick
- Salad with grilled chicken (dressings can be tricky)
- GF sandwich
- Grilled fish and baked potato
- Chicken and veggies
- Homemade Chinese food (rice and meat and veggies with GF soy sauce)
After I had my 4th child, I began to feel really ill again. I was completely gluten free and losing weight quickly (I gained very little with him, compared to my other 3 children) because of the diet. I then decided to try the Paleo diet. This diet is very expensive and time consuming. But it is a great way to improve your overall health and allow your system to “chill” if you have any type of digestive issues. With Paleo the focus is veggies/fruit, nuts and meat. You will be gluten free, dairy free, sugar free and grain free. If you try this diet, I highly recommend getting a Paleo cookbook. This way you have all kinds of recipes at your fingertips. Figuring out what you can eat is the biggest challenge on this diet.
Using the Paleo Diet to lose weight is very effective. I dropped 7lbs in about 2 weeks by cutting out grains, sugar and dairy. It sounds nearly impossible (believe me I know!) but if you are motivated to lose 10-15 lbs this is probably the fastest way to accomplish your goal in time for the summer.
