Having spent a good portion of my life in central North Carolina, a fun day at the beach would cost me a three-hour drive. Luckily, Wet N’ Wild Emerald Pointe is a mere half hour drive from my humble home in Thomasville and is the twelfth largest water park in the United States. Having attended the park countless times in my life, I’d highly recommend it to anyone living in or visiting the Piedmont area. The park is an amazing experience you won’t soon forget. The park is just off highway I-85 and is less than eight minutes away from Greensboro’s Four Seasons Mall. The park is open most dates between May 24th and August 1st this year. With such convenient hours and location, one would be a fool not to plan a day at this park when in the area.
My first trip to Emerald Pointe was at the age of five in 1997. Despite the park opening in 1984, it was new and exciting to me. I’d never so much as seen a water slide in my life or even done much swimming outside of my own above-ground pool. While I can’t recall much of my visit, I do remember just how pleasant the staff was. They were all very nice to the children (myself included). The environment was extremely family friendly. I had never felt safer than I had with their lifeguards on the look out.
The park has always been fair on pricing.
This year, an Any Day Season Pass is just under $70. There are also multiple packages available for families. When planning your trip, remember to keep some money for parking, the lot charges seven dollars per vehicle, but gives a dollar discount to season pass holders. Season parking passes are also available for thirty-five dollars.
Containing nearly 40 rides, the park is full of activities for all ages. The Double Barrel Blast is a personal favorite. Two side-by-side slides that send you flying out four feet above the pool just screams excitement. The Daredevil Drop is a thrilling experience that drops you just over seventy feet, seemingly straight down! While the thrill rides are fun for adults and larger children, the younger family members will enjoy the Happy Harbor and Splash Island play areas. If you need down time, the park offers a shallow pool titled Leisure Lagoon and the gentle current of Lazee River. The park has attractions that will amuse all members of the family.
In the past 17 years, I’ve attended Emerald Pointe at least once each year. The park is always a fun experience, even for a local who goes regularly. When I’m looking for a fun, safe place to cool off and enjoy my summer, I look no further than Emerald Pointe. If you’re planning an adventure down to central North Carolina, I urge you to check out this amazing park.
