Working in the beauty and glamor industry, I get the chance to see firsthand what happens behind the scenes of photo shoots and runways. Working with celebs and style gurus is exciting but what about the Average Jane who doesn’t have those beauty resources? Here’s a secret-it’s all about the products! When I work with a client to achieve her desired hair and makeup look, I often spend a lot of time giving hair coaching tips. These tips will work for you too!
Straight hair begins with the first combing after the shower. Invest in a wide-tooth detangling comb. Grasp the hair at the ends and comb out the tangles beginning there. Work your way up to the root, a few inches at a time. Savagely combing or brushing your with a hard brush or unforgiving comb can lead to frizz.
Apply a straightening product to your hair before you start the drying process. Damp dry hair with a towel then squeeze the product into the palm of your hand. Less is more though, start with a small amount and work that into the ends of your hair and then scrunch the product up to the scalp. Don’t apply the product to your roots. (That can trigger unwanted oiliness.
With one hand in your hair and the other holding your blow dryer, dry the hair beginning at the tips. Shake the hair as you dry for even drying.
When hair is nearly dry, brush the hair with a paddle brush. Apply straightening balm to resistant curls and kinks.
Finish drying the hair by clipping it into sections. Dry at the back of the head first, then up and around to the sounds.
Finish for a straight look using a ceramic straightening iron. The negative ion charge from this kind of straightener really heats up the hair quickly, less time for damage.
That’s it–really! No complicated procedures or expensive products.
