I’m not always organized–and it hurts. When things are out of order (chaotic!!), I can become stressed and overwhelmed a lot easier. However, when I am organized in many areas of my life I feel freer and more able to accomplish everything that I want to. Here are a handful of ways I’ve learned to be organized in my daily life.
1) A Clean Room/House
When my bedroom is clean, I can move around easier, get work done more effectively, and ultimately feel better about myself. Since it’s Spring, it’s the perfect time for you to start cleaning your room (and house!) in order to become more organized; put clothes away, vacuum, put books and CD’s where they belong, and make sure everything is in its proper place.
Although online paperwork is becoming the new norm, it can still be beneficial to receive or print out hard copies of everything just in case. Whether you purchase a safe, file cabinet, or types of folders, its important to make sure your important paperwork is readily available and put away properly. Personally, I like to keep my bank statements by hole punching them and putting them in a binder. Additionally, I have a filing folder that allows me to separate certain paperwork, such as health insurance information, loan information, etc.
If you’re like me, you have a ton of books with little to no room for them! Sometimes, you don’t even remember what books you are! I’ve actually purchased a book and later found out that I already owned it. As such, invest in some type of sticker or labels that you can put on each book. Afterwards, you can sort them out by genre, title, or however you would like to do it. The point is accessibility.
Your car can become messy–fast! Although some cars have little room for organization, you can purchase CD holders, garbage bags, etc. in order to hold the common things that are found in a car. A good starting point, though, is to clean it thoroughly and throw out any garbage or unnecessary things.
Whether your office is at home or at work, make sure that it is clean, tidy, and organized! You can do this by filing paperwork in the appropriate places, having pens in the same location, and freeing up desk space. Not only does it look more professional, but you’ll probably feel better about doing your work in a clean space!
