Well it is almost one year and another Barbados Association of Greater Houston (BAGH) night on Offats Bayou, but wait; not so fast: Another BAGH night? Really! Not quite.
Sorry, readers that will be fight from the start with power players, and I cannot go down in this fight because completing another article is a whole lot more rewarding than taking jabs, punches, bumps and bruises (just kidding) so here, the gloves come off. It is a team-powered night on the Bayou.
The Power Teams
In strategic order, the content outlay of the flyers read:
- St. Kitts-Nevis Association of Houston
- Houston Association of Panamanians, Inc.
- Barbados Association of Greater Houston
There it is; a three-fold chord is not easily broken. Though not at the height of 2013s, attendance the June 21, 2014 Boat Ride was super-charged and energized: another Tropical Explosion on the Colonel Paddlewheel where flags of the triple players, triple participators; triple performers were flanked by that of the United States of America’s Stars and red, white, and blue stripes.
From the Third Deck
Sounding its horn at 7:00PM, the Colonel Paddlewheel pushed off from Port. By 9:00PM, it was dark and the stars align the skies, dark enough for fireworks. From the third deck of the Colonel to the two decks below, Saturday, June 21, 2014, tropical explosion night on the Bayou imitated a cultural tie-in, the ‘recognition of Caribbean Heritage Month’ that blends with recognizing the month of Juneteenth.
As for the fireworks at 9:00 PM, one person joked ‘I didn’t know July 4th come in June.’
Good Food, Gorgeous Women and
Warning! Don’t Miss Next Year
The Jamaican Restaurant, Cool Runnings’ provided good food. Delicious! And guys some of the most gorgeous single women you’ll see and find — never married or divorced– come on this Paddlewheel Boat Ride, so don’t miss it next year. I do not qualify. More than thirty years, my wife cut me out of market circulation. Poking joke, one woman put it nicely ‘I don’t know his name but I know to whom he belongs.’ It is your turn men, if looking. Bump it up a notch if you can dance well. Single women, your shining armor might be on the 2015 boat ride. And, significant others or married couples one night on the Bayou can rekindle flames of courtship-fire.
Talents of the Night
The real talents of the night, however, were four members of the Baytown Renegades Steel Pan Music Band, managed by Lesley “Christmas” Grier. Many people complimented of their performance. Well, I must exit. For information on next year’s associations Tropical Explosion Boat Ride, please contact BAGH representatives, Ms. Judy Foster or Mr. Ed McDaniel at 713-977-0787 or 281-300-1275.
At end, I am still friend of the Panamanians and the carefully respected St. Kitts- Nevis Association of Houston – out without a bruise. Much benefits in compromise: LOVE. PEACE. RESPECT!
