I live in Dallas. There is a need to make Dallas a better place to just get from point A to point B without all the waiting and the traffic congestion. I thought about it for some time and provide some of my new ideas.
Concept no. 1: The Multilevel Sky Bridge
This concept has both public as well as private transportation in mind. Across the Trinity River where on opposite sides at the lower levels would include out going and in coming light rail, and pedestrian walk paths with benches and fountains and beautiful plants along the walk path. Up one more level would be 8 lanes for not only private transportation vehicles and but all other types of vehicles like sports utility vehicles, trucks and long haul trucks.
Concept no. 2: Centralized Parking
Parking areas both around the periphery of the city and located near the central areas of the city where motorists can park all day and access several forms of public transportation in and around the city from key access points.
Concept no. 3: The Elevated Median Pedestrian Walk Path
At the center and above opposing lanes of traffic on the freeway elevated median pedestrian walk paths would allow pedestrians the opportunity to ride a bike or walk for miles above the flow of highway traffic without having to be directly in traffic. Stairs and elevators would take you up to the elevated median walk paths from sky bridges that allow for access points via parking garages or parking lots adjacent to them and provide public phones, restrooms and sitting areas for people to enjoy leisure activities.
Concept no. 4: Covered Parking Lots
When you drive to the grocery store and it’s raining and the only thing providing shade are hackberry trees full of grackle birds you might just end up later at the local car wash. And on those hot days when your car is baking in the 100 plus sunshine don’t you often wonder how much better it would be if only the owners of this lot had a way of covering the parking spaces, thus keeping them in shade and away from intense sunlight?
The entire parking lot need not be covered, just the spaces where cars and trucks have to park. I am still working on the drawings but below I hope you enjoy them even though they are a bit fantastic to imagine.
Finally, we need to look for new answers to our transportation problems. Future Paths is my concept and I just know there has to be some changes for everyone in America to make so getting from point A to point B and back will be both safe and sane for everyone.
