Songs from the 70’s and early 80’s were memorable. They have profanity free lyrics that we baby boomers still remember. And the type of music you want to listen to on a long car ride, When you hear them on an oldies station they bring back great past memories. One artist who gave us such tunes, is the piano man, Billy Joel.
William Martin Joel, aka Billy writes and performs all of his own music, without the benefit of a writing partner. He had top 10 hit songs in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, and is the 6th best selling recording artist in the United States.
Billy Joel was teased and bullied because he had an interest in music instead of sports. His instuctor taught dance classes in the back of her house, which led the neighborhood bullies to believe Billy Joel was taking ballet lessons.
These were the days when men who were not into sports were often called a sissy and believed to be weak. Joel began taking boxing lessons in order to deal with the bullies. It would seem he got the last laugh so to speak, and I cannot help but wonder where his tormentors are now.
Billy Joel’s music is fun and enjoyable. Here are 4 of his hits, that are still being played today. Here are 4 that I believe fellow baby boomers appreciate, and will bring back fond memories.
Only the good die young
Each of these songs has it’s own rhyme, rhythm and reason I love when My life comes on the oldies radio station while I am driving. I dance and sing along. I find this song will pick me up when I am feeling down.
I enjoy watching the Uptown girl video, and doing the dance steps with Christy Brinkley. Only the good die young, is another tune that gets me moving, while Piano man slows the pace a little bit. If you deisire more music from the piano man, you can go to his official website.
