Frigidaire front load washers are workhorses and when treated properly do a great job. But, if certain things are overlooked and allowed to continue, your trusty washer won’t spin and could cost you time and money. Let’s look at the most common causes of why your washer won’t spin and what you can do to minimize the problem.
I’ve written about this before and bears repeating it here. Your machine is designed to properly wash and spin only a certain amount of weight. If you consistently push its limits you can expect your washer to wear out much quicker, but more importantly the overall operation of your washer will be severely affected.
If the weight inside your washer is excessive, your washer simply won’t be able to spin your clothes correctly and likely will vibrate and shake putting undo stress on the mechanical components of the washer.
Failed door lock
Older Frigidaire front load washers that won’t spin, at times will have a failed door lock. You might wonder how this could prevent the washer from spinning. Consider for a moment what could happen if the washer were allowed to spin without sufficiently locking the door. The danger of a washer door flying open when spinning at full speed is obvious. Another catastrophe would happen if the door happened to open with a full tub of water! So, this is the reason for the door lock. To make sure the washer does not enter spin with a failed door lock, the lock is monitored at all times during operation. If the door lock confirmation signal is missing, the washer will only tumble for a short time and the machine will eventually turn off completely.
Defective drain pump
If you notice your clothes are too wet after the final spin, the culprit could be the drain pump not doing its job. The cause could be a clog inside the pump trap or somewhere in the water drain lines in the machine. A broken impeller or defective motor can also present the same symptoms and won’t let your machine enter high speed spin.
Motor control or speed control board
A quick way to determine if the motor control board in your Frigidaire front load washer is preventing high speed spin, watch the basket during a spin cycle. If the basket is moving the motor control board is likely OK. If the basket doesn’t move at all, suspect a bad motor control board.
