If you need to do some updating on the inside of your house, I have a few suggestions that have worked well for my husband and I.
If you’re on a budget like we are, then you change small things. By this I mean, you can change one thing without having to spend a fortune on one room. Most of us just don’t have the money to redecorate everything we would like to do. Then we update what we can.
I needed a new small lamp in our spare bedroom. I went to Meijers and saw a beautiful little lamp that would fit perfectly on the dresser. It only cost me $15.00. This little lamp brightens up the whole room and makes it look different. One new updated item can make a huge impact on how a room looks.
Another item was a floor lamp that needed to be replaced, so I went to the store and bought one for $30.00. You just wouldn’t believe the difference.
The wall- to- wall carpet in our kitchen looks dull because it’s so old. We can’t afford to replace it so we bought a few big inexpensive rugs in two different colors for approximately $26.00. This covers quite a bit of our kitchen and also the spots that won’t come out of the old carpet. It makes the kitchen look better.
If you just update one item in a room, no matter what room it is, it looks almost new.
Think of it like this. If you have an outfit you want to wear but you think it looks old or worn out, what do you do? You go out and buy a pair of new shoes. That makes the whole outfit look new.
I had the same old curtains in the house for over 20 years. It was time to update, so we bought shades for three of the rooms. They are lighter and they keep the sun out and the heat in. We didn’t do all this at once of course, due to budget issues, just little changes over several months.
One more tip that I have is to keep your house clean. Keep magazines and books in order, not thrown all over the place. A tidy home is a newer looking home. A disorganized home is not. Keeping your home clean and not messy makes your home look better.
