Brunch is becoming increasingly more important nowadays due to work schedules, families, and the need to sleep in on the weekend. The good thing about brunch (breakfast/lunch) is the time allows people to eat any type of food. Whether it is breakfast foods, lunch, or a full dinner entrée, brunch is one of those nice excuses to ease into the late afternoon.
Here are the top four brunch spots (and local to the area) in the Quad-Cities (IA/IL):
430 14th Street
Bettendorf, IA 52722
Open 24-hours per day
Ross’ is home of the Magic Mountain, a full plate of grilled Texas Toast covered with ground beef, French fries, and smothered with cheese sauce. Patrons can add onion on the top to make it a Magic Mountain with Snow.
The location is excellent as it is right off the Interstate. Geared toward truck drivers and late night party goers, Ross’ often times is forgotten for brunch, making it a quiet spot to gather. Also, since Iowa is a swing state, President Obama has visited the area often and has even visited the restaurant.
2430 Spruce Hills Drive
Bettendorf, IA 52722
Sunday – Thursday: 8 am – 9pm
Friday – Saturday: 8 am – 10 pm
Happy Joe Whitty started this restaurant in 1972 and has since grown it into a franchise dream which includes several locations across the area. Since there are several established locations, parking is never an issue and can accommodate all patrons interested in partaking in Happy Joe’s diverse menu.
However, why bother looking at the menu when Happy Joe’s is the founder of the Taco Pizza? The story goes that after a franchisee suggested adding tacos to the menu, Happy Joe Whitty suggested the Taco Pizza in lieu of tacos. It has been a big hit ever since.
3055 38th Street
Rock Island, IL 61201
Tuesday – Friday: 8 am – 8 pm
Saturday – Sunday: 8 am – 4 pm
The only beef I have with Ganson’s is the seating. There seems to be more parking spots than seats but I could be wrong. The few times I have gone there I have gotten a seat. Having said that, Ganson’s is another local establishment that offers an assortment of unique food items like the Grilled Cheese & Chorizo Sandwich. Filled with chorizo and melted Pepper jack cheese on white Panini bread, this sandwich can satisfy any patron’s appetite.
1514 5th Avenue
Moline, IL 61265
Monday: 11 am – 3 pm
Tuesday – Wednesday: 11 am – 8 pm
Thursday – Saturday: 11 am – 9 pm
Café Fresh is a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is classy yet comfortable and the only drawback to the restaurant is the location in terms of parking. It is downtown so there is a small parking lot in the back but for the most part it’s street parking with a possible two block walk. The food, though, makes up for the slight inconvenience. It’s definitely worth looking into. Also, I believe I went to high-school with the owner/founder so, if anything, support your schoolmates and visit their establishments.
