Spring is here, and the entourages of summer concerts are getting warmed up! As a child of the ’60s and ’70s, I love seeing the classic rock bands on the lists of summer series concerts around the country.
One of the biggest comeback tours this year is the long-awaited reunion of Fleetwood Mac, featuring the band’s British originators, Mick Fleetwood on drums, John McVie on bass, Christine McVie on keyboards and lead vocals, as well as America’s sweet acoustic vocal duo, who joined the band in 1975: Stevie Nicks on lead vocals and Lindsey Buckingham on guitars and lead vocals. The 2014 tour will be the first tour in over 15 years since the band’s lineup as listed above has done a full tour together as Fleetwood Mac. Christine McVie’s last tour with the band ended in 1998, and since then, the band has toured under the name Fleetwood Mac with variations of different players over the last nearly two decades.
Fleetwood Mac’s tour embarks in late summer on Sept. 30, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN, and takes them on a 38-show tour of the US and Canada, ending on Dec. 20 in Tampa, FL. Fans old and new are sure to hear all of their favorites this time around with all of the prominent vocalists in place. Just to name a few, songs like “Rhiannon,” “Say You Love Me,” “Go Your Own Way,” and “Big Love” are sure to be part of the play list. I am excited to see this band as it was when I was growing up! You can see the full tour dates list here. I’ll see ya in Atlanta!
Other exciting concert tours this summer include Heart featuring Ann and Nancy Wilson performing classic hits “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” “Crazy On You,” “Alone,” and “These Dreams.” They are starting their tour April 22 in their hometown of Seattle, WA. Guns N’ Roses will be doing a tour that will hit the U.S. on May 13 in Bethlehem, PA. Fans of the long-bearded boys from Texas won’t want to miss ZZ Top with legendary guitarist Jeff Beck cruising along! For those of you who are a little more refined and jazz oriented, Steely Dan will be playing a full-length U.S. tour this year, beginning in Redmond, WA on July 5. The first well-known new wave band, Devo, will also be doing 10 shows starting on June 18 in Baltimore, MD.
If you’re seeking great music as part of your summertime fun, there are lots of shows to choose from this year. Check your city’s local concert venue listings or look up shows near your area at Ticketmaster and other ticketing outlets. Enjoy the music!
