The now popular website Facebook was not always trendy. I remember I first created my account in 2007 in the middle of my high school years, after my brother urged me to create an account. At that time, none of my friends used the website, and aside from my brother, I did not know many people who did, as MySpace was the cool thing back then. Now, I cannot imagine life without Facebook.
1. Takes up a lot of my time
As I mentioned, I can’t imagine my life without logging into my Facebook account daily. Whenever I’m bored at home, guess what I’m doing. Yup, I’m on Facebook scrolling down all of my friends statuses or playing a game. It is also my first go-to website when I’m on my breaks at work, because it’s easy to access on my phone with the app.
2. Stay in Touch with People
This website is a great way for me to stay in touch with friends and family members that live far away. I can see what they are up to and even have private chats. I’m also very shy, so Facebook helps me to chat with people this way and make more connections that I normally wouldn’t make on my own.
3. Discovering Events
One of my favorite things about this website is that you have the option to look at events near you. For example, I just found out the other day that my favorite rock singer, James Durban, is going to be playing a free concert at a local bar this coming Wednesday. Without Facebook, I probably would not have known this information and would have missed out. Now, I’m really looking forward to seeing him perform live.
4. Inviting People to Events
Facebook makes invitations so much easy. I no longer need to spend money on postage or envelopes to mail out event invitations, but just send an invitation on Facebook. This was great for a family picnic last year. My family lives in different areas, and sending an invite through Facebook made it possible to just throw out at date and see what would work for everyone. Instead of having to pick a specific set date with no flexibility, we were able to plan around everyone’s schedules.
I have to say, I am addicted to the video games on Facebook. Most of them are kind of pointless with no strategy, but for some reason they are still fun. Anytime I am bored, I’m on Facebook playing a game. I started my addiction with Bejeweled Blitz, but as time went on I have gone through several other games. My latest obsession is My Vegas Slots, because you can earn tokens which you can use for discounts and some free things in Las Vegas. Since my friends and I are planning a trip in December, this will hopefully be a good way to save some money.
