There are numerous ways that you can increase mind power. There may be several things that you would like to try. The first one that I would like to talk about is smoking.
Psychologytoday talks about researchers findings that smoking may cause your hippocampus to shrink and reduce cognitive function (the ability to process thoughts). Dr. Charles DeCarli, MD of the University of California adds that people with diabetes in middle age lost brain volume in the hippocampus at a faster rate than those without diabetes.
Have you ever thought about how you feel when you did not get enough sleep? I know that when I do not get enough sleep, I feel really bad and awkward too. Charles W. Bryant talks about how the brain function is increased when you get a good night’s sleep. He further adds that researchers have found the brain uncatalogued the previous day and puts it in the proper mental folder so it can journey from short-term memory to long-term. This does make sense.
I like the comment that John J.Ratey, MD. made about comparing exercise to taking a little Prozac or Ritalin at just the right moment. Although I have never taken Prozac or Ritalin, I do feel the benefits of exercising and that is a really good feeling. In addition, he adds that exercise is for the brain and does affect vitality and well-being. I can attest to that, because that is what I feel after exercising. Also, exercise is free brain training at no cost to you.
4. Free Online Brain Games
There are numerous online brain games that you may benefit from as well as enjoy. One that I tried and really liked was Uber Brain on Cnn.com. There are a several tasks for you to complete within several minutes. When it is completed you are given the results. I was given a score for 5 areas which included language, visual, execution, concentration, and memory. My Total score was 1548. My lowest score of the 5 areas was 50% in the visual and my highest was 100% in memory. There are several other brain games there too. It is not too late to start training your brain. It is important.
Also besides brain training we need to pay attention to our relationships which are important to a joyful existence according to Teresa Belcher at transhumanity.net. In addition, she suggests you need more than one person to fulfill your need for social connections; She talks about spending six hours a day socializing with friends, familly, colleagues at work, home, phone, and other communications. Now when I think about this, there are those that are on Facebook socializing at least six hours or more. I can see the importance of socializing, because the feeling afterward can be a great feeling.
It is not too late to start training your brain and definitely remember to socialize for that connection and joy in your life. It is important.
