Even, glowing skin is beautiful skin, but accomplishing it can be difficult for some people. Red blotches, acne and sun-damage can make your skin look damaged and uneven — so not attractive! But if you follow some simple tips, even skin can be yours!
TIP #1: ASTRINGENT
I have found over the years that the use of an astringent, in addition to your normal skin care routine can really even out skin tone. There are many astringents to choose from. However, regular old witch hazel really works. After washing your face, before you apply moisturizer, put some witch hazel on a cotton ball and rub over your entire face, careful not to get any in your eyes. Do this twice and day and watch the redness and blotches on your face fade.
TIP #2: EXFOLIATE SKIN
Exfoliating your skin once a day can also be a great way to even out the tone of your skin. Using a face wash that exfoliates will help take away dead skin and make your complexion not only smooth, but it will also help to eliminate imperfections that can make skin appear damaged. I usually exfoliate my skin twice a day, but I’ve heard some people say that it can dry out their skin. So, if you have normally dry skin, try to only exfoliate once a day. And, if you like to make your own products, simply mixing oil and sugar together creates a great exfoliating face wash.
TIP #3: MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN
Always use moisturizer on your skin, even if your skin is normally oily. Moisturizer will help keep your skin smooth while also aiding with redness and uneven skin tone. Anything with vitamin E is a great pick, but since those with SPF can be less moisturizing than other products, only use moisturizer with SPF if you’re going to be in the sun that day. Using moisturizer twice daily, or anytime you exfoliate will help even your skin tone and keep away unattractive flaky skin – a problem I’ve dealt with a lot around my nose.
TIP #4: DRINK MORE WATER
Water is not just good for hydrating the body. It’s also good for hydrating the skin. Drinking more water will actually help eliminate poor skin qualities. Instead of picking up that can of soda, switch it out for a pop. Try to drink as much water as possible. It’s good for you and your skin, so it’s a win-win!
TIP #5: USE FACE MASKS
Face Masks can be a great way to regulate skin tone. Using clay based masks not only clean your pores, but will aid with oily skin. Even if you have a regular skin type, the use of facial masks can help even out skin tone and give your skin a fresh, glowing look. There isn’t really a face mask that is bad for you, but, I prefer clay based masks as well as peel-off masks. The use of any of these, used 2-3 times a week can be a great way to promote healthy skin.
Healthy, even skin tone can be hard to achieve, but if you stick to the steps above, you will have better results. Do not skimp on your skin care. This is the skin we will have forever, so it makes sense to nourish it the best we can. Always use sunscreen when you know you’re going to be in the sun and keep a regular skin care regime each day. I hope these tips were helpful as so many of us struggle with uneven skin tone. So wash, rinse, exfoliate, use astringent and moisturize every day and enjoy clear, even-toned skin.
