Recently, I had a mom’s night out. Don’t worry. I didn’t get drunk and dance on any tables. Actually, I met my mom friends for coffee. Even though it wasn’t a wild time, I was glad I went out. Mom’s Night Out, the movie, is coming to theaters on May 9, 2014. In honor of the movie, I came up with a few reasons why you may need a mom’s night out.
You’re Long Overdue for Some Girl Time
I had my first child about 6 years ago. I have gone on quite a few date nights with my husband and gotten a manicure or two with the girls. However, since having kids, I hadn’t gone out with just my girlfriends, at night. Although I enjoy my quiet time more than anything, I also know it’s good to be social. It’s nice to have friends to count on, to talk to and to form close, personal bonds.
It’s Not Good to Be in Your Jammies at 8 p.m.
Let’s face it. When Friday night rolls around, most of the time I’m so tuckered out, I just want to watch a television show, chat with my husband or go to sleep. A lot of the time you can find me walking on the treadmill, trying to catch up on housework or writing. However, I decided it’s not a good thing to be in my pajamas by 8 p.m. every night. That could get a little boring.
It’s an Opportunity to Wear Your New Shoes (or Shirt or Dress)
I have some high heels and nicer shirts that I don’t like to wear while taking care of a toddler. After all, who wants applesauce or boogers smeared all over their “dry clean only” shirt? Thus, I save these clothing items for a date night or mom’s night out.
It’s a Night Out Without the Kids
I invest so much energy into my family that I forget to take any time for myself. As much as I love my kids, it’s good to have a night out without them. Plus, I can order a gooey brownie without having little hands grabbing for a piece.
Everyone Else Is Doing it
I’m not trying to put any peer pressure on you. However, a lot of women engage in a mom’s night out. Furthermore, National Mom’s Nite Out is a nation-wide event that brings together mom’s on social media. While sponsored events are held, the day is a time to encourage moms to take a night off from their usual routine. This year, National Mom’s Nite Out is on May 8, 2014. While this is a good excuse to organize a mom’s night, you can have one any night of the year.
I’m hoping it doesn’t take me another five plus years to attend another mom’s night out. That would be way too long!
