Description of four simple verses that speak volumes.
David’s “mighty men” were victorious. They were mighty in strength and ability to win battles. But, there are other things that made them mighty in other ways, ways that you and I can also be mighty for our King.
Text: II Samuel 23:13-17
1. They believed in their king.
They believed in David’s goodness, his ability, and his right to be a good king for them.
Do we believe in Jesus as our king? Do we believe in His ability and His right to be our king?
The same God who anointed David as king over Israel also gave Jesus authority over all things–the wind and sea, everything–and a throne on the right hand of God.
2. They were devoted, loyal to their king.
So should we be.
We should love our King with all our heart, mind, and soul. Parables of the field with discovered treasure, pearl, etc—parable of the kingdom that show us that Christ should be the most treasured thing to us.
3. They were attentive to their king.
So should we be, like sheep who listen for the voice of their sheperd. Do we know what our Kings desires? How do we listen to Him? –verse about hearing comes from the Word of God.
4. They were willing to do whatever it took to please their king.
Even if it meant risking their lives. David was a good king, but Jesus gave His life for us. Shouldn’t we be willing to devote our lives to Him—“a living sacrifice”?
5. They honored their king and were honored in return by him.
The Bible teaches that when we honor God, He honors us.–see verses
