Five Facial Masks Made Out of Food
I want to start off by saying that putting food on my face is the best thing that has ever happened to my skin. It is so much softer and clearer than it ever has been before I started using these methods. I use foods like kiwi, lemon, sugar, and egg white because I know they do not have any chemicals or unhealthy preservatives like typical acne or face wash brands out there. I want my skin to benefit from what I put on it and not suffer from the ingredients later. Proactiv for example contains so many harsh chemicals that are supposed to purposely dry out your face to eliminate excess oils and zap acne. This can lead to overly dry skin and make it itchy and irritated. It also contains close to forty ingredients per product, all of them chemicals and preservatives. Lets learn how to tend to our skin naturally and see how these results work for us!
Your facial routine should start off with rinsing. Make sure to apply cold water to your face and dab dry with a soft towel to ensure you get rid of any extra dirt or dry skin. If you try to start your skin routine with a clean face, it will make it easier for the masks to do their jobs.
Next is exfoliation with sugar and lemon. Exfoliating is very important because it preps the skin for the next step which is toning and tightening. I take a teaspoon of sugar and mix it with a teaspoon of lemon juice and apply evenly to my face and neck with my fingers (you can use a cotton ball too if you would rather not use your fingers). Leave on for about fifteen minutes and then rinse with cool water. Lemon contains vitamin C that brightens the skin and naturally tightens it as a bonus. Sugar acts as a natural scrub to gently clear away any extra dry skin on the face and it also cleanses the pores.
Up next is the toning and tightening mask using egg white. Egg white helps shrink pores and contains many wonderful nutrients for your face. The protein in egg white promotes softer skin, the potassium hydrates the skin, the riboflavin is good for killing bacteria and toxins, and the magnesium contains properties that make skin look young and beautiful. I use a whole egg white on my face and I apply it with a cotton ball because it is so gooey and hard to grab with your hands. Leave on for a half hour or until your face feels so tight you can’t stand it anymore and rinse off with cool water.
Cleansing cools the skin down and gives it a break after all the exfoliation and toning. I love love this cleanser called 1000 Roses Cleansing Foam by Andalou Naturals that uses rose stem cells to loosen impurities and promote moisture to dry skin. It contains all natural ingredients and is by far the best cleanser I have ever used. I put one pump of the cleanser into my hand and apply to my face and neck, rubbing vigorously. Rinse with luke warm water.
The kiwi mask relaxes your skin and has enzymes that rejuvenate skin and regenerate skin cells. I mash an entire medium sized kiwi and apply to my face and neck with a cotton ball. Sometimes I use two cotton balls if the first one gets too saturated. Leave on for fifteen minutes before rinsing off with cool water.
Last but not least, the turmeric mask. The root turmeric comes from the ginger family and has been used for cooking in India for thousands of years. It is a very powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory and has been known to kill bacteria and promote better health for the body overall. I use honey with the turmeric because honey is a natural antibiotic and humectant that balances out the Ph of your skin. Warning before you start this mask: turmeric stains very easily so make sure you are wearing clothes you don’t care about and I recommend putting your hair up and pushing it back with a headband so that your hairline doesn’t turn yellow. Your face and neck will be yellow temporary after wards. If you want, apply some witch hazel or rub some petroleum jelly lightly on face and neck and that should diminish the yellow stains faster. Turmeric also unfortunately stains the sink pretty bad. Cover your sink with a plastic bag first or just rinse the sink right away so that it doesn’t suffer from the yellow stains. I use a table spoon of honey and a tablespoon of turmeric and spread all over my face and neck. I leave mine on for an hour but a half hour works too and make sure to wash off thoroughly while keeping your eyes closed because turmeric is a spice and can sting a bit.
So there you have it! I hope you try these out and comment with feedback.
