I love to update my look for summer, especially when I have a trip to the beach or pool planned. While I can’t afford to spring for a whole set of new clothes, I can always afford a few fun new accessories. Here are my picks for looking modern and fresh this summer:
Summer accessory trend #1: Round Sunglasses
I think that every summer season calls for new sunglasses, and while a few styles are popular this year, I like the super round sunglasses I’m seeing in stores. Unlike some sunglass styles, the round glasses look great on every face shape, they are funky yet retro. This look can run up to $100, but I found a stylish gold and black pair I like at dELiA*s for under $10.
Summer accessory trend #2: Metallic tote bags
My biggest struggle with summer bags has been finding one that looks good both on and off the beach. I love this year’s trend of metallic tote bags, as they can go from casual to nighttime without any modifications. They also probably will look great in the winter, giving me a lot more use for my money. Metallic tote bags can cost as much as $300 this season, H&M carries their own stylish gold tote for only $25.
Summer accessory trend #3: Skinny belts
I love a more casual look in the summer, and a skinny belt can smarten up skinny jeans, short shorts, a shirt dress, or even a swimsuit cover up. Right now my favorite skinny belts are Old Navy’s skinny belts. I love how colorful they are and that they are cheap enough ($15 and under) to buy one in every color. These belts have a bit of stretch to them, so they are super comfortable for more casual summer wear.
Summer accessory trend #4: Glitzy straw fedora
I love the natural sun protection and style of a straw hat in the summer. While floppy straw hats have been in for the past few years, I’m happy for a new trend to come along. Fedora straw hats, especially with a little glitter or metallic in them, are chic, urban, and young looking. I love that these hats look great by the pool but also work well for a night out on the town. All the straw hats I’ve seen this season are reasonably priced, and I especially love the Gap’s Metallic Banded Straw Fedora for under $20.
Summer accessory trend #5: Temporary tattoos
Temporary tattoos are everywhere this summer, and I think they’re a fun way to make a statement when wearing a swimsuit. If you search online, you’ll find temporary tattoos for almost any theme and interest. My favorite summer temporary tattoos are these popsicle temporary tattoos from dELiA*s. They would look perfect with a retro or colorful bikini.
