If you are into high-intensity exercise regiments, then don’t let them go to waste by cutting back on your protein. This muscle recovering essential amino acid needs to be taken before, during, and after workouts (and really anytime during your recovery period). While meal time is an excellent chance to fill up on protein rich meats like fish and turkey, it is snack time that can really make a difference. Choosing to snack on Skittles or choosing a high protein option can make all the difference in the world. The best part of this snack idea is that it does not involve the Whey Protein that many of us struggle to swallow because of the strong taste.
One of my absolute favorite protein packed snacks are the Emerald Dark Chocolate Almonds. It’s hard to believe sometimes that these nuts are so healthy for you because it feels like you are eating a dessert because they are so sweet. The almonds provide protein, healthy doses of Vitamin E and the dark chocolate portion of this treat help with your overall blood flow. Two handfuls are plenty, but the only downside of this snack is that it tends to make some people who consume these nuts a bit gassy.
Cliff bars are perhaps my second favorite protein snack. Proving double digit grams of protein in a single bar, these are a little less healthy for you but they are a good reward sometimes after a particularly hard workout. Several different flavors exist but White Chocolate Macadamia is definitely the best of the bunch with second place going to Chocolate Coconut. You will have to experiment on your own which one you like best, but it won’t take long before you’re hooked on this somewhat guilty pleasure.
Diamond Walnuts are my last heart healthy protein rich snack that I like to put in my oatmeal every morning. This is a great way to throw some taste into an otherwise fairly bland food like whole wheat oats. Sometimes I can just pop these like candy as well, they really are that good!
There are plenty of other great snacks with lots of protein, but these three are at the top of my list. Experiment with these three and try some on your own that look tasty to you and keep building those muscles!
